This is from Simone's blog last Thursday....
She said “Some days I feel like shit, some days I wanna quit, and just be normal for a bit…” -Fort Minor
My blood counts were not so good today. Especially the platelets, they dropped from 57 to 42 (Normal: 150-450). They have no been at a constant decrease since the 19th of May. Getting closer and closes to a transfusion now. The Lymphocytes are “reactive” and went up a bit. Basically it means there is an underlying infection and its fighting it. The Neutrophils are as always still very low, 0.38 (Normal: 2.0-7.5). They are the main infection fighters, so I need to watch my temperature and be very careful. We are going to call my doctor tomorrow to discuss this. I am due for another biopsy, eeek, so we will see what he says.
I got so angry at Lancet Laboratories today. I phoned them to ask if they could fax them to me (my house doctor or specialist always does, but neither where in today. The woman said she can’t give them without asking my doctor. Can you believe it ?!? Halooo, its MY blood, and WE pay for it! I then went to the lab closest to me and did not leave without them!
Its funny how friendly people are towards you, when they (specifically when I have blood taken) see that I am being seen by an oncologist. That word is quite a powerful one it seems.
My first goal was to have this all over and done with by my 21st, well, that’s in 13 days. Next goal was to have my donor by my 21st. So now I am praying for a miracle! My cousin was tested last Monday, the results take 2 weeks. The first week you will most likely find out whether they match on a low resolution or not, if you don’t you will not be a donor. If you match on low resolution, you get tested to a higher level. We have not heard anything yet from the lab, so maybe she will be my miracle!
We have not heard anything from the 2 donors that are being tested in Germany yet. Tick-tock, tick-tock…
Otherwise I feel okay, besides being very tired, constantly. Today was one of those days where I just could not get out of bed. I eventually pulled my inner strength together and did. And my body is a “bruise battlefield”! I will update as to what my doctor says.

And this was from Friday......
What an emotional day today. Everything just had me in tears. Got some strange looks today, the kind where they say: Ah bless her… lol. My hair is looking awful, dry and stringy, white as a sheet, and big swollen polar bear eyes! Everything just got to me today. The bad blood results yesterday, tired, fed up, my cousin didn’t match, making it obvious that I lost my temper with Lancet lab yesterday etc. Those blood results are not just numbers to me, they determine when my next biopsy is, they determine if I need to be hospitalized, and unfortunately they show how backwards everything is going. Its like waiting matric results every week or two and the newspaper guy refuses to give you a newspaper until he has asked your principal who happens not be there there until tomorrow. It upsets me that the people who do not respect and understand how important they are to me, gets to see them first and I have to sign a consent form to see them.
I phoned my specialist today about these blood results, I have to go in pronto next week to repeat them and do others.
And again I am very sad my cousin Kerri did not match me as a donor. She was apparently close to my brother, but not me. So I am joking that I knew I was always adopted (I was not really)

We collected £87.20 at Midland Counties show yesterday. Thanks to everyone who donated and to the ladies and girls who went round with the bucket. The bucket will be out again at Devon next weekend.
If you want to enter the stud dog draw then make a donation to me and you will get a free entry for every £10 donated.
We have collected £540.20 so far which is great but Simone needs so much more.....

every penny will help - remember this is not like some of the large organisations out there that take a percentage for advertising, getting the money to the person, or anything - every penny of your money will hit Simones account - dig deep, she is in trouble. Dog-father training school have £25 for you Shirl. Thanks Mo.

This in from Simone's blog yesterday:
Went to see my Proff today. The platelets were now 46, we did a hand count as well and it was 60. Quite confusing to get an accurate reading. Further or more he told me not to stress to much, but we will be doing a biopsy to see what is going on. We first have to apply for pre-authorization from the medical aid, so it should be done in the next 2-3 weeks. Ouch. Can’t wait!
The other good news is that Medihelp has finally authorized me as PMB (Cancer patient), so my doctors consultation fees and some blood tests will I might need, Vidaza, that is R30 000 a month (my dr said n o medical aid will cover it), the will cover 80% of the cost. Every bit helps! This medical aid drama has been going on since April, just by the way!
I said right at the beginning my wish was to have this all over with by my 21st, which is in 8 days, so thats not going to happen. Then I said I wanted a donor by my 21st, its unlikely but you never know! My Dr says he thinks we might have one by October, and the transplant by November/December. I hope its going to be sooner than that!
I have been so tired. But a tired that sleep or vitamins is not curing. Like my battery is just constantly flat! The low platelets have caused some hectic bruising and bleeding. Its quite gross, my gums bleed in my sleep, and when I wake up, well you can imagine. Then they start again after brushing my teeth very gently with a baby toothbrush, and I end up walking around with cotton wool stuffed in my mouth! Very attractive and comfy of course.
Some very hearty donations have been pouring in. Never thought a bank statement would make me cry… Thank you very much to everyone that has been so kind! It means so much to me and my family, I actually don’t know how to express it..

The latest from Simone
I have a dreaded bone marrow biopsy on Monday the 26th of July.. Sigh. And I WILL be sedated… Not that brave. They did a hand count on the platelets this week as their was clumping, they were at least a bit higher. The biopsy will now tell us what exactly is going on down there in my marrow..
I went for an amazing prayer at the break of dawn this morning at Serengeti. Friends of ours organised this. It was an awesome experience. During the prayer the man’s hands were on my back and they got so hot I almost started burning! This prayer was to heal me. I hope, pray and believe that it worked!
Good news on the donor search! The 2 donors that were being tested matched on the next level, so now they go to a higher one. I think there are 1 or 2 levels left out of 10 or something! So this is great news!!! It will now take another 2 weeks or so before we have the next update on that!
We are having “The Great Frog Race Derby” Fundraiser on the 7th of August, 19h00 at Crawford College Pretoria as a fundraiser. And…. we have CASPER DE VRIES as our MC and entertainer! This is great fun, so please grab all your buddies and join in! We need people to buy tables (have 20 available, seats 10 at a table) at R500 a table, you then sell tickets to 10 of our friends. So it does’t cost you anything except you R50 for your ticket. If you would like any more info, please contact

God bless you all!

Bone Marrow Biopsy (Not for the fain hearted!)

The stud dog draw will be made at the end of August. We have lots of stud dogs pledged as you can see on earlier posts (and Conadrew Quatro has recently been added to the list by Barbara Place - thanks Barbara) but we really now need more donations and entries to the draw.
Please send your donations to me (PM for address etc) - cheques made payable to S Van Kraayenburg. For every £10 donated there is a free entry to the stud dog draw. This lovely young lady really needs everyone's help.
