Any person with a shoe on their foot can take out a smaller dog, no matter the drive.  Thats the difference!

Is it okay to say that my bitch has only fair prey drive, and a merely average grip?

by beetree on 09 April 2011 - 21:04

Mudwick? Is that you? Well aren't you a sight for sore eyes. Somehow, I just don't picture you asking Duderino permission to say much of anything!  LOL

Welcome back to the "new" boards! yes

GSDPACK

I was thinking about this today.... yes I think sometimes.

The people who saw my dog work, had him on sleeve or suit would say he has plenty of drive, he is civil and he likes to bite a little too much in some aspects, he was capable of getting ScH3 at the age of 3 years and I was really working on getting him ready for competition. It was not easy with a civil dog that thinks that the helper is his new bitch. He laughs into the faces of weaker helpers.. not good if you want to compete right?

I still would not call this dog extreme. my female can to 40 second bark and hold and not flinch (and she is intense, not squeeking and sleeve begging), I still would not call her extreme. She is civil also, she is a working machine. But I would say, nice balanced worker, has her heart in the right place..not extreme drive, not extreme that and top that.

To me extreme is something I dont like honestly, over the top for me is unbalanced unless is teachable and trainable. there is a dog for every sucker and I think that the dogs speak for themselves, not what people might think. So I would say, show me what you call extreme? I have handled one and it was no fun till we got some OB on him... which took a lot from him since he had heard time thinking..tons of drive less brain. but that is extreme till they learn to use that tissue called brain.

There are a lot of very funny and witty people here. Too funny... Reading this thread has been very entertaining and some of the comments have made me laugh out loud. Thank you!

"Rik once again, you are looking at the world through German Shepherd eyes.  To quote Captain Nemo, "I walk a different path".  The problem I have is that pet people like yourself throw terms around like they are loose change and they really have never even SEEN dogs of that type much less owned them."

dude, the GSD is the breed I have chosen. What other eyes should I look through. And I have never tossed around any term concerning my dogs. I put them on a leash and let folks form whatever opinion they want.

The problem I have is that people like yourself somehow come to consider themselves as the sole authority of what a GSD should be.

So what if someone names their dog "FiFi". how many points have you lost because of this. How many breedings have failed because of what someone else does. Exactly how does it affect what you do.

You have had some success in training and competing, which allows you to give advice on training and competing, not become the father of the breed, or bully others who go in a different direction.
Put your mouse trap out there. If you are correct, the world will follow you. As for me, you are just another dikhead.
