I would pick #2, probably would not want #1 at all.  I don't like over the top prey or obsessive/neurotic behaviors with regard to using toys for training.  I don't like object oriented dogs.  I also like choice 2 because I like food/hunt drive.  My ideal dog is really more like #2 than #1 or even a combo of both.

Guppy I dont know what you are talking about. I was thinking more about the people who choose #1 over #2 because for whatever reason they dont know how or are not wiling to train #2 to be good citizen. I was not implying anything but some were implying that #2 could not be good family dog, out in public, etc. etc. I was not directing my post at anyone in particular but based on several responses......again I ask.....anyone ever heard of training?

And no......its no game.

THERE IS NO WRONG ANSWER! THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME DOG! NUMBER TWO DOG GROWN INTO NUMBER ONE DOG!!!

Assuming my intentions are still Schutzhund competition, I would take Dog#1. My helper would have no trouble
balancing a dog that has "medium" defense drive. He would be civil soon enough.

If my intention for the dog are companion/ protection, I would snatch up dog#2.

When I answered, I assumed that BOTH dogs are sound, stable dogs.  I would NOT want a dog that is so suspicious and sharp, has such a low threshold that it has to me micromanaged and is basically not stable.  If that is the case then no thanks, neither dog for me.  IMO there's no reason I can't have a dog that is more on the civil side and not at all equipment oriented and not have a solid house dog that is trainable and trustworthy.  The adult dog I'm currently training works very much in defense, not equipment oriented in the slightest, great personal protection dog (and we've been dabbling in that lately and loving it) and he is first and foremost my house pet, my companion.  I take him everywhere and of all the dogs I've had he is the most stable and trustworthy.  He plays fetch off leash at the dog beach and does little trick demos for my husband's elementary classroom.  My dad can walk into my house unnanounced and my friend's kids can handle him and play with him (under my supervision of course).  I am not looking for super low threshold whether it's prey or defense.  I would never own a dog with so sharp a nerve it wants to bite any person in a 10 foot radius and cannot understand the difference between a threat and a friend or pedestrian.

I don't remember stating that #2 was unstable.

I would pick the one I would like based on my preference in dogs after testing them both, I dont pick dogs without getting my hands on them! Controll freak!

Sorry I would pick #3...

am I messing up the game?

Ok so #2 is stable and therefore able to be trained to be good citizen in public. You should be able to title #2 in Sch but maybe not high level competition. #1 could maybe be high level Competition dog and possibly be trained to be more civil. For the record I have seen super high prey drive dogs that want to bite anything that moves without thinking. This IMO is more dangerous out in public and harder to train to be good in public than sharp civil dog.

To answer your ? D.C. i would pick number 1 for top sport and to me it would be a funner dog to have as a personal family dog companion for your family and that friends would enjoy and at the same time its sounds like number one dog is tough enough to protect the family when needed, but then i dont live in a big high crime city and need a dog to slit someones throat and drink the the bad guys blood,I also hunt with my dogs and they have to have high prey drive as stated with dog number one,but as you said prob the idea dog for many differant venues would be a combo of each.
