Well, it is Matt's problem to decide, isn't it? Or you can keep making it bigger, if you think it is. But it helps to put a name to an accusation, and do you have one?

Not just no......Hell no..!!   This was done to member and the very least
Lyle should condemn it. He is probably waiting for some one to tell him.

If you can't look out for your members you are not worth a shit
in my book....I am not making accusations, I don't have the slightest
idea who did this or I would be sitting their chest about now.

I did check with security. There are cameras and it's possible that they would
have seen something. My van was two thirds of the way out to the end of the
parking lot.  The right side of the van was facing away from the building.  All the camera would have "probably" seen was the roofline of the van and someone hanging out around it.

Security would not even look without the police there. There was over 40 hours
of video to go through. I would have had to fill out a police report and agree
to press charges in order for it to go forward. That means that I would be
agreeing to come back to Carson City if there was a court date set. Which assumes that
they would actually be able to identify who did it. And if that person was
still there. If they had already left the state, they would not have even
pursued it.

I would also have had to pay for the tires upfront so that I would have damages.

Lots of time and hoops for me to jump through for what gain? I already lost
Friday. By the time I got the van back, the stadium work was over.

As it is, I called enterprise, told them their van had two flat tires. They did
all the work and got it fixed. I was called and told that they would be
contacting my Credit Card about the damage to the tires and the two of them would work
out the payment. They brought the van back to the hotel and I continued on with
my weekend.

In my opinion, who ever did it was long gone by Friday afternoon. By the time
the Police got done viewing 40+ hours of video, it would have easily been Sat or
Mon. At which point whoever did it is long gone. Net result is I'm out more
time, effort, and money for nothing and whoever did it gets away with ruining my
weekend as well.

I refused to let them gain more collateral damage.

Right or wrong, that's why I decided to not pursue the Police report over it.

I would have done the same, Matt. My jaw dropped when I read it on the Grassroots list. Every person I know who has heard is amazed that anyone could be so ridiculous.

Do you have any idea what a pain it is to deal with the police when a crime is committed? My daughter just got shot with a BB gun walking home from school and I've been on the phone for the last two days dealing with it! An out of state mess like this? For what? To be ridiculously inconvenienced and give the tiny little wanker more satisfaction? Over two tires? Forget it. I'm sure whoever did it is out there gloating over this whole thread, probably been dying for it to hit cyberspace.

So, hey @sshat: You're a pathetic loser.  I hope it feels good to behave like a petty teenage thug. I'm sure it's all you have going for you. I've got an idiot 14 year old kid down the street that you would get along great with.

What did it end up costing you, Matt? Some of us have an extra $100 laying around. I don't really need a new pair of shoes. ;)

by mklevin on 12 November 2010 - 14:11

Thanks KCzaja. The Credit Card I used is a secondary insurance on any rental vehicle damage. When they are all said and done, I won't owe much if anything. I hear that DSW has some great shoes though! Again, thanks for the offer but I'm good. (Besides, you might need the extra money for the dues increase). Matt

I will suppose that Matt was a candidate for leadership in usca???? After reading the explanations for why he did not do his duty as a private citizen as well as a representative of usca membership I ask this! Is your  lack of action in the apprehension and prosecution of the perpetrator indicitive of your conduct in discharging the duties of   someone in a leadrship role in usca? I find your reasoning  without merit!  To me your lack of action reflects upon how you would act in a leadership role!      I would also have had to pay for the tires upfront so that I would have damages        Perhaps you should re-examine your  reasoning behind your decision?  Not trying to start  trouble I am only  trying to point out issues your enemies will certainly use!

The current "leadership" of USA should have stepped forward and offered support - financially maybe but at least some sort of gesture - toward Matt who was a USA MEMBER attending the USA NATIONALs at the time of the vandalism.  But no, the great leadership didn't do that, did they?  How is that a good representation of supporting and leading the membership?

by Betty on 12 November 2010 - 16:11

I can not believe that people are questioning someones decision not to pursue a police report on slashed tires.   Which one of you want your tax money paying for an officer to review 40 hours of security tape?  Which one of you live in a jurisdiction that they actually would?

If his tires were the only one's slashed it would appear likely, just likely mine you, that is was connected to the election.  It would be nice if the management of USA would issue a statement that i"IF" it was a USA member that this kind of action would not be tolerated and if anyone knows anything to please come forward.

You lead by example.  So many organizations just do not get this.

I totally agree with Matt,....pick and choose the battles you can  win.
The one's you can't...walk away because there will be another day.
This is very smart and shows maturity and good leadership. If I
get a cluster f...k from the police and a no win situation I wait for
another time.  Besides I think in time these knuckleheads will pay,
what comes around goes around. Thats why I offer the $200.
for information. I don't care if they do one day  in jail, they will always
be looked upon as dirt bags....Good for You Matt, you did the right
thing.
