Mrk:

It is a crying shame that you just don't get it - the price tag doesn't make the dog nor does the titles that the parents have... That is in opinion is like you saying that your dad flies jet airplanes and since he can do it  his offspring can fly them too - (after all it is in the genes - right? you don't have to train the kid - his dad did it).....

Option B might seem like a great deal - and maybe it is - maybe not - but neither dog  the $5000 or the $500 would get the training they needed- so each dog would be a bunch of crap - CAUSE YOU DON'T TRAIN YOUR DOGS......

Did you pick out your puppies when you first got them?  See what their personality was like before you brought them home?  You can usually tell a good bit by them at a young age on how they "Might" grow up to be.   Anytime you pick out a pup you have to choose the right pup for the right job - but with that said - even if you pick out the best puppy for the job - it still takes training to mold that puppy into what his job will be.    DID YOU DO THIS? or did you just purchase  any old  $5000.00 pup and throw him in the back yard and expect him to automatically know his job?

Your dogs are obviously dogs that just stay in the back yard - get no guidance from you - they don't know what you want from them - You ask GSDfan what would your dogs do it your weren't there to guide them - -question is - what would you want them to do?  A dog with no training -which yours don't' have- that would choose to do something on "his"  own is a loaded gun waiting to go off....
Do us a favor and get off your high horse and go find some help to train the dogs you have -

YogieBear

PS - GSDfan - thanks for the explanation of your training sch vs pp

all they are to me is leachers costing me money to house/feed them while in return will never lift a paw to help my family in any dangers

I have to say, I find this attitude to dogs shocking....

GSDfan,
my post was about these dogs not having any natural instinct to protect its property / family. im not asking why my dogs won't protect while if im being mug. so actually. it is you who havent learned a thing.

you post links on a person holding a leash telling a dog what to do. yet you havent post or link anything on how to train them to protect ones property or is it that you don't any clue and your way out of it this is "TRAIN YOUR DOG"?

by the way, a big fearful nervebag that will bark is a lot better than a happy friendly courages dog that stands there and watch your house and property get burglarize when you are not home.

Blu Inu -
so you are telling me that these german shepherd dont have the common sense to protect my property so they will need proper trainings to know how? so a dog from the humane society / shelter doesnt need any form of training to bark and be an alarm system? hhmmm....interesting.

im not asking the dog to be a protection / service dog that know a million command on how to subdue an attacker. all im asking them to do is "ruff ruff" when they see a stranger climbing my fence.

Bottom line: a Chihuahua to a Great Dane have the common sense and natural instinct for home security while what i have has to be train for something this simple.

charlie319 -
i bought these dogs because of what learned and read about them now i realize it was all sugar coated to boost the price of pups. here is an example of one source from Wikipedia under german Shepherd search.

"Shepherds have a loyal nature and bond well with people they know. However, they can become over-protective of their family and territory"

YogieBear-
if your dad and all the way up to your great great great great grandpa flies jet airplane, maybe theres a very good chance you will fly one too someday huh? if everyone in your family tree consist of genius/doctors/proffessor on both side for over 10+ generations, i bet you will have a higer IQ than someone with families who didn't graduate from high school and work in fast food restaurant or farm.

"- CAUSE YOU DON'T TRAIN YOUR DOGS....." pleasee explain that. how do you train a dogs that suppose to be naturally protective of property? if shelter animal know when to bark at someone not welcome on the property, why doesnt a german shepherd? after all, people here tells me Chihuahua to a Great Dane can can do it, why not a german shepherd?

i dint pick out my puppy. i, like most people who buys puppy from over seas, paid a lot of money for it and the hope seller dont run off with my money or send me a false paper puppy.

dont assume what you dont know. i see that on your avatar your dog seems to be in an enclose backyard....does that mean your dogs just stays in the back yard and never go anywhere?

about the loaded gun part, thats pretty funny. most of these Sch3 / Va dogs are more like empty water guns. their protectiveness has been bred out of them for so many generations, you'll be lucky if you get one that has that natural instinct to protect. just like some breeders breed only short coat german shepherd and every now and again, a long coat puppy will pup up.

You get that the vast majority of showlines dogs are NOT bred to have the kind of instincts you seek, right? They are just bred to look pretty---most of them--and to like to chase the toy. So I fear that your real anger lies in your anger at yourself for not doing enough research to have bought the right dogs.

I think you should sell those two dogs right away to someone who will appreciate them. Your kids might get over it if you buy a working lines puppy right away. Puppy cuteness always wins. That's why there are so many unwanted adult dogs. OR: you can appreciate the two you have, and understand that very few burglars will want to test your dogs out on themselves.

But then you will probably be mad at the insane amount of time required for a working lines dog. You might be one of those people who smacks it for biting your ankles and digging up your sprinkler system. If not, IF YOU KNOW how much work they are, then get one and sell the ones you have. But all GSDs have to have a ton of training!!!!

I am holding the leash, and instructing her what to do because I am TRAINING her!!!

In TRAINING her, I am creating reaction without thought...If you practice something over and over, it becomes second nature when it is needed.

In general I train her to recognize a threat...and how to react to it and do so with confidence.

I posted the video's to prove you are wrong about Schutzhund and your false impression of dogs that carry a sleeve!!
NOTHING MORE, it was NOT in any way to show you "how to train them protect ones property"...you were under the impression that dogs who carry the sleeve are equipment fixed, and that every dog with a SchH title is junk...I proved you wrong and you completely missed the point!!

My assertion that you need to TRAIN your dogs is because if you feel they are not performing properly  then do somthing about it!!!  (a overlyconfident dog doesn't need to bark because they do not feel anything is a "threat").  In the very least training will teach them this is a threat, this is how you react to a threat...

If they learn to bark on the training field they are more likely to do this at your home without anything further....however if you feel you need more then once they are doing well on the training field then you move to TRAINING them at your home, having a decoy aggitate them over the fence and give them a bite while you are there to praise them...they bark they get their reward...a bite and praise from you.  You can move this further by creating different "family protection" scenarios.

I caution you.... If you do get off your ass and actually train them....be careful what you wish for and be sure to use a professional trainer that knows what he is doing.  If your dogs do well and you go too far or too often with this at your house you must be careful, you will create very sharp confident dogs...always looking for the next "intruder".  I would also balance it out with showing appropriate behavior with friendly people.  I do not practice this at my home because my dog barks when someone coughs upstairs...if I had a decoy come to my house for scenarios she would become sharper than I care to live with.  If I lived in the "hood" I would, but I don't, so I won't.  If the situation would happen to arise am confident she would do a she is conditioned to from training...I don't have an ego that needs to prove it to you!

Well MRK, you are either a troll from this forum (or another) just looking to raise some hell on the forum and have a few laughs, OR you really are a few cans short of a six pack.

Frankly, I don't care. You spent alot of money supposedly and for what? To have dogs barking in your backyard? Come on, ....fess up,.... you're just screwing with the forum,...Right?

If you did spend that kind of money hoping to have fully functional protection dogs with a high defense drive right off the airplane, and expected to do NO TRAINING what-so-ever, the phrase "More money than brains comes to mind". Now,.. it's getting very hard to believe that you are this much of an imbecile,.... but, one never knows.

You are babbling a lot of ridiculousness, and the more you babble (or type in this case), the more obvious it becomes that you know absolutely nothing about dogs, training, drives, drive building, basic foundation work, protection,...nothing at all, yet you still try to convince people that you have a point. You had one of these dogs for 5 years, and the other for 3 years, and never did anything but put them in your yard and watch to see if they barked. Ooops,... oh yeah, and looked up GSD's on Wikipedia. Not to mention it took you this long to feel the need to address the "They won't bark in the backyard" issue.  Come on,..... confess,.... be honest,... you're just having some fun here, Aren't you?

The part in my post that suggested that you could have got a dog from the pound, refers to your lack of initiative (read: laziness) to train and your obvious lack of comprehension skills to understand what you are learning, and to put it into actual use. You would have saved a lot of money since you had no intention, or ambition, to do anything with these dogs anyway.  OK,....own up now,... you really aren't this stupid....Are you? Come on,... I'll give you a few lol's and lmao's maybe even a hahahaha, but don't leave us wondering if you really are this much of a tard.

P.S. - Use the spell check, learn capitalization, punctuation, plurals, past tense, etc.,.....and Thank God for the cut and paste function for the Wikipedia quote too!!  That would have been a real treat trying to decipher that if you would have had to re-type that quote word for word!  Ummm,... and BTW,...it is BU INU, not blu inu. I'd explain, but your brain is obviously at capacity now trying to figure out what was wrong with your post and trying to come up with some other way to put down the SchH sport and GSD's in general.

Hmmm,.... my money is on MRK, in that he is just trying to pull one over on the forum here.
