<Sigh?... Nope, I'm gonna follow your example and pick out the bits I fancy!

OK, Dingodog, so the KC does not allow these colors and calls them highly undesireable. Malcolm Willis thinks whites, at least, should not be ostracized into a separate breed. In the meantime, off colors are NOT ok in pretty much ALL standards. However, all these gross amateurs who can't get a job think that it's a good idea to breed them, and not just breed them but breed them based on COLOR. Is that pretty much it in a nutshell?

Ok all, I had never read this thread until tonight and only read it now because I had recieved an email from Helen Davenport Willis (Dr MBW wife), saying with the following message, hence the reason I came looking for the relevant thread -

Below copy of Email from HDW to myself
Hi Sue, I see on the PDB that there is some confusion as to why Covey Tucker Hills Manhatten is on the dust jacket of Malcolm's last GSD book, " The German Shepherd Dog - A Genetic History" . That issue must have been published in the USA as Malcolm would not have chosen that dog for his front cover. We have never seen that dustsheet front cover nor would we have approved it! Admittedly the dog is mentioned and there is a photograph of him in the book because he was a big winner in the States but he is certainly not Malcolm's type and would NOT have been chosen for the front cover. The fact is that I chose the front cover for the book which was of course published here in the UK and my choice was a headstudy of Odin v Tannenmeise! The fact that the publishers went to the States with the book and put CTHM on the front cover was out of Malcolm's hands and as I say we had no idea they had done that. Hope this helps. Helen xx

And in turn I hope it helps the lot of you, some of whom, just like Dingodog did before you, read between the lines and came up with your own interpretation of what Malcolm is meaning / thinking without actually knowing and then you set about trying to convince the rest of us. As if we would ever take any of your interpretations of what Malcolm Willis thinks / means when we have access to the man himself.  Though I must admit I had to smile when Dingodog (in some other thread) went on about how much she always wanted Malcolms book on genetics and finally got it handed down to her, geeze she sure wanted that book loads didnt she, so much that she waited until she happened to get it pro gratis as a hand me down, whereas people like myself who is genuinely interested in the breed ordered it from Waterstones as soon as it was published. There lies the difference between a dedicated breeder and a professional heckler.

Best Regards
Sue

Wow...I feel like I got a note from a famous person. Thanks for posting that, Sue. And please tell Mrs. Willis thanks for her attention to clarifying this mess.

For the record, this is Odin: NOT an American show type and NOT an Alsation type.

Sue B, thank you so much, I was really getting so sick of hearing this woman, Dingodog, telling everyone what Malcolm meant by his statement.  Dingodog, you are not fit to lick his boots let alone mention his name. As for the book I totally agree with what Sue has said, personally I bought my copy when the ink was still wet.
Dingodog if you have read Malcolm's book, or had ever met the man, you would have no doubt as to where his heart lies in the GSD. So please do us all a favour and stop Quoting him.
How many threads now have you spouted your drivel, if you are not a professional heckler then you should seriously consider it as you certainly fill all criteria.

It seems to me that all these colours which are not within the standard then a ruling should be passed that they be Neutered when young, Then if that ruling is passed any one then breeding from these unwanted colours them be taken off the Official breeders list of the Powers to be for that country and a Black listing Site be put up to warn prospective purchasers  in each country by the organization's of the countries involved
I take it most of these unwanted colours come within the Showlines side, for i have never seen a real working line not within the true colour. In fact i have never seen a Liver coloured Dog bite on a Sleeve, they do not exsist in the circles i move in

I think Europeans cull pretty thoroughly.

Before everybody goes all psycho and thinks CULL = KILL, please note:

Culling is the process of removing animals from a group based on specific criteria. This is done in order to either reinforce certain desirable characteristics or to remove certain undesirable characteristics from the group. ...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cull

Culling does not necessarily mean the dogs are PTS; it means they are not bred from. I know you know this Steve1, but so many other people have no idea. My very first GSD was a white culled from a B&T litter. Papers withheld, which was good, because I was CRAZY about that dog and, in my twenties, would probably have bred him due to my ignorance.

Vom, thank goodness you cleared up CULL, before some sensitive souls took offense, lol.
