I have only recently started reading this forum, although several years ago I tuned into the PDB as a cool source for pedigree information.  Interesting material for the culturally and geographically isolated.  At any rate, I have got to concur with your pretty dismal assesment of this forum.  Sorry to say, but I find myself pretty dismayed at too much of what goes on here.  I don't hold Oli responsible for the shenanigans that go on here, though.  I know I wouldn't want the job of trying to regulate this Madhouse.  Back when I first discovered the PDB, I think about 2001 (not sure), I was pretty blown away that some guy in 'where ever the heck he is', I'm thinking Iceland or Greenland, had gone to the the incredible work and expense to set up and maintain this website.  At the time there were no "paid" advertisements and as time progressed the expenses that Oli was incurring exceeded his capacity to pay them.  I am not a computer guy, but I do remember that he had to increase his computing capacity, out of his own pocket, and never set out to make the PDB a "for profit" enterprise.  I guess I must have been reading in a forum here at that time to remember some of this stuff because I vaguely remeber him talking about the possibility of going "commercial" as a way to off-set the expenses, although he would have preferred not to.  I wish there were a page here telling the history of the PDB because, like many things in life, it is too easily taken for granted and the people who created this website and continue to maintain it can be too easily forgotten or ignored.  Oli doesn't seem to be much interested in self-promotion though.   I don't know if Oli follows this forum or not.  I question my own capacity to continue following it, and if he, or anyone else, bailed out long ago I wouldn't blame them a bit.  Still, there is some pretty good information available here thanks to contributors such as yourself, Jim.  A person just needs to be willling to strain through tons of BS to find it, unfortunately.  I would be the one of the last people to try to talk you or anyone else into sticking around, I'm not sure if I'm willing or able to do the work it takes to sort and strain the content here.  Unfortunately, I do not have very much to contribute to this forum.  I have very limited knowledge and experience, and I know it.

Yeah, this place is, unforunately, a very strong case in point of the necessity of having moderated forums.  I just don't think that it is fair to expect Oli to shoulder that responsiblilty or criticize him for not doing it.  His contribution to the world of dogs/people should not be under appreciated.

If you do split this scene, I would like to thank you before you go for some of the posts that you have made here.  Yours is one of the voices that has earned my attention and respect as being worth listening too.  I say that based on what I have read of your posts that are archived here.

Very well said; and you are right that there is some great pedigree information here. 

I agree with you about the start of the PDB, it was and still can be a great resource for information on dogs.  I would like to give Oli the benefit of the doubt and assume he is just too busy to check out the forum.  However, I really don't see how long it would take to check some threads and see who the trolls are (such as Maggie)  and the miscreants such as UD are.  I am trying not to believe that Oli is an ant-Semitic, racist, neo nazi, wacko like ugly.  But when you don't ban users like him for posting horrific things it makes me wonder.  Oli seems like a nice guy, so I'm leaning towards him being clueless to the demise of this forum.  To think he approves of the rantings of UD, (which he does by not taking action against it) is very disheartening. 

Thanks for the nice words regarding some of my posts, the archive feature is a valuable tool.  I stop by to check PM's and am more than happy to answer questions or offer advice by PM.  If someone feels like asking and I can be of help.
