Your welcome Ruger
Here is a little more info about what wolves eat and the parts. I use to give my dogs livers all the time cause I was friends with a butcher that would give me all the free liver, heart, and bones I needed for the dogs. Was nice to have free food.

Very interesting Lav.  I've come home to my dogs head right inside the stomach, granted, I'm not sure exactly what part they were eating, but I've never seen them not eat the party digested food.

So, all a dog needs is meat and bones then?      and the stomach linings, as in tripe I guess.  Why do all the raw diets have greens, carrots etc?  and how do you know you are getting the right cal and phoshorous ratios?

Sorry Keith for derailing your thread.

Heaven only knows why people feed veggies.....probably because they think human and canine digestive tracts are the same, and Mom said Eat Your Veggies. But remember to feed organ as well as muscle and bone....just a small amount of it, though, or it will cause the runs. I mean, your average prey animal is about 15% organ (not counting skin), so it makes sense.

PS. Keith, would you ever consider raw food for your boy? I mean, I understand that you prefer kibble, but would you ever CONSIDER raw feeding? How is he feeling, by the way?

Thanks, everyone for your responses and advice.  I seriously never meant to start a big controversy over feeding methodologies and whatnot.  Over the years, I've tried virtually every diet under the sun and the results, in my experience, are always pretty much the same...the dog deals with the genetic hand he/she was dealt.  Wolves are omnivores...they eat what they can find.  Axel is fine...he's eating well and still has a big, goofy smile on his face; just limping a bit and it will pass...not my first trip to the circus, not unexpected and not something about which I am overly concerned.  He'll be fine.

let me give you a little inside information here on that
the vitamins etc that are artificially produced for kibble have two downsides
first of all , they are not stable , meaning they fade out on a short time , practically meaning that bag of dogfood of 8 months old has lower levels of everything added than a bag that is just produced.

second , and most important for this topic
if a foodcompany produces a batch of kibble of 4000 kilograms ,they need to add ,lets say ,  2 or 3 kilograms of artificcial produced vitamins, minerals etc

now there is no way to make sure that these 2 or three kilograms are equally devided over the 4000 kilos of dogfood

so the levels mentioned on the bag of dogfood are theoretical values , can be more , can be less , and getting less ,as the bag  ages

im in the dogfood world and the producer  of artificial vitamins etc tells me these products expire in a timeframe of six months after production(of the vitamins, not after production of dogfood, the powder can be two months old already when used)

furthermore ; a dogs body responds differently on natural versus artificial  vitamins/minerals etc
if you overfeed a dog on artificial calcium , you will get problems ,the dogs body stores everything ,  if you overfeed natural calciumcources you wont have any other problem then hard dry stool on your dog,the body will regulate what it needs

Well that is interesting, duke. Thanks.

Keith, I know you know your dog will be fine. I hope he doesn't suffer much.

Maybe it's coincidence but, I've never had a dog with pano...male or female....and I feed my dogs any and everything and have never had any health issues! I feed bones, organ meat, kibble, table scraps, vegetables, fruit etc. And yes, my dogs are always hungry!

I only had one puppy develop pano, and it quit after they stopped feeding kibble.

I have had dogs with pano only when they cam here from Czech and I put them on commercial dog food. As far as wolf goes eating content of the stomach; it is the truth that they shake it off, but there is some always inevitable some of it  left. I personally believe that wolf (and my dogs anyway)  eat preferable innards because there are digestive enzymes which help them to digest what ever they eat and it is all about efficiency.  That is why dogs love green tripe and I add into my dogs food little bit of raw vegetable or fruit and parsley.

Genetics.
Yes Czech dogs have it as any and all lines do. However it is no issue if you feed properly. ( Not too much and feed meat.)
