Sunsilver

by Sunsilver on 03 April 2010 - 03:04

I have a friend who is going to help out. She does grooming.  She also has a son who is very keen on dogs, and was a huge help when Story, her Shiloh bitch, whelped her litter last summer.

I will ask about the tile grout, but if I understand correctly about sealing tile, the grout has to be removed and replaced with a special impermeable grout, the sort used in hospitals and vet clinics.

The pea gravel in my current home does not drain to grass, but it's such a small strip, I wonder if it's really worth buying an industrial-strength deodorizer for. Is there a household remedy that will work, such as H2O2?

I caused the problem myself, and in the future, I'll find a different system. In the winter, I would put the bags of poop right by the back door which leads to the dog yard. As we now have to pay for grocery bags, I didn't want to toss a bag until it was at least 3/4 full. However, as the sun got stronger, the snow and ice attached to the poop melted, and drained out through holes in the bags onto the patio and the pea gravel. Maybe a bucket of hydrogen peroxide/baking soda mixture applied to the spot would do the trick?  And, of course, using a sprinkler on the grass to dilute the urine. We are so dry here right now that there is a total ban on outdoor fires. Very, very unusual for this time of year. I think last year at this time at least part of the dog yard was still snow-bound. Today I was out sowing grass seed, and watering the lawn!  The temperature peaked at 25 C.

I mean, .....HELLOOOO! This is supposed to be Northern Ontario, for heaven's sake!

Thank you for offering to help out with advice. I will PM you!
