Harness is good for a young dog for more unrestriced movement, less pressure on the neck, better engagement of the helper, unrestricted barking and so on.
So, YES for harness when the dog is young.

He evidently does not like them and going by the way the Pup acted on that occasion and by the way she went last night with just a leather collar he in this case is correct, She was as you say over there Awesome Her speed is out of this world across the ground, Plus i have always used a Leather collar on a dog prior to buying this one and i will not be using the Harness again
Sunday i will try and take some photos of her on Protection but will have to get her breeder to handle her whist i take the Pic.s"
Well Steve1 that is all fine that there was a reason he didn't want your pup to have a harness but the way he talked to you I find very unprofessional. If there was a reason why he didn't want your dog to have a harness then fine...he should have explained that to you so you and others could learn as well. In some situations a harness is useful as I have learned with the helper I use to work with.. Look forward to seeing pics. You should hold your dog and have the breeder take the pics.
P.S. where are you located?

I am not a beginner with Dogs all sorts of Dogs including working dogs of sorts from herding to ScH and have in the past helped to train young Dogs for the Blind so where dogs are concerned i am no novice and have owned and worked them etc them for 60 years but your posts suggest i am a beginner with dogs in this case working dogs
As regards knowing when to take offense when someone speaks to me I am not a child not am i a soft touch quite the opposite but if know the person that is okay, but if it upsets me enough to retaliate then the one involved had better be sharp for i never mess about talking, but in this case as soon as he said it i knew i had made a mistake, and i am not going to explain it here in detail the Pup is so keen to get at the helper the harness was hindering her and i could feel it right away
Over there you Guys work differently to most over here in Europe, That is not to say your ways are better or worse or vica versa, It is what works for you They do not use the harness at all in three clubs i have worked with this was the first time with my other two Shepherds i never used a harness just a collar but i thought i would with her, thinking as she was so keen almost fanatical at getting to the helper i though it may save the pressure on her neck but i thought wrongly
Last Sunday she had just a leather collar and she was as you say Awesome we do not use such a word over here we say she was great, excellent or good
To get to the crux of this post is to say that i think you are trying to say in your own way that I and they need to learn over here
Of course we can all learn and anyone says different is stupid but when one is the Belgian team Captain WUSV and helps prepare the Belgian team and the Helper in question works with them i think they know a little bit about the sport
As for me handling her one time is irrelevant and is of no consequence, She will not even know the Belgian team Captain has hold of the line she will not be looking at him or anything else only one thing that fellow in front of her and i can take the pic's as i want
and why do i take the Pic's my camera lens is not automatic if you do not adjust the lens by hand and know how to do it then you will get long range photos and that is no good having a Pic with the dog and handler at long range
Now do not take this post as being sarcastic for it is not just telling you the facts for i think you were being as we say over here a little patronizing and just to put it straight
