I think the reason Cesar is part of this is that, like too many other fools in the world today, he actually thinks that AR is about stopping the feces-filled cages, matted furs, and all the rest of the horror of the quintessential puppy mill.  The majority of people are drawn in by these incredible stories of horrific conditions in which dogs are kept and forced to breed at every heat, given no care, no socialization, and no love.  They have no idea of the agendas that their money goes to support, and in the case of celebrity endorsers, what agenda is behind their paid front.

The simple fact is that there are way too many breeders in this country, of all kinds of dogs.  There are a lot of good, caring breeders, who are small, produce good quality dogs, and do the training and health checks, as well as researching blood lines to make that perfect match.  There are big kennel operations who also produce lots and lots of puppies (we know who they are) who do the health checks the training, and the bloodline research, but produce puppies by the gross every year.  I consider the big operator to be somewhat of a puppy mill, because there's just no reason to produce that many puppies unless it is for profit, and then the concern for the individual dog goes straight out the window.

As for the stray dogs running around in areas like this, OBGS stated in response to my post:

"Soulhunde,
You should adopt the philosophy of CrysBuck.
Take care of them yourselves!
Don't like 'em, shoot 'em!
You know, The Law of Three S's!

Yee hah!!! I think I'll go bang my cousin! Or, is she my mother???
Human stupidity cases seem to crop up most amongst the "Inbred"!

{"Most dog breeders keep their kennels clean, dispose of waste, and keep their dogs confined."}
Do you even know who "most dog breeders" are???"

Well, there's a reason that we don't have the stray dog population like some places do.  We do have enforced leash laws, at least in town, and when a stray dog does threaten a child or attack livestock (it does happen, though not as much here as other places), it is more likely to be shot then the police called while the person stands by and watches.  I'm not saying there's a bunch of rednecks running around gunning for any dog that is off leash...That is totally a bunch of nonsense.  I watched a Sheriff's deputy a good many years ago shoot a dog, that had been going around killing chickens and cats.  The neighbors had been warned, repeatedly, and they had even been ticketed for dog at large, but finally it was enough.  The dog was shot for the owner's absolute refusal to keep it at home, where it wasn't going to kill the neighbor's livestock.  They do call it the law of the Three S's....Like it or not.

As far as whether you go 'bang your cousin or mother, that's between you and her.  I am neither inbred nor stupid, thank you.  Those lines were written as jabs at me because you don't agree with my viewpoint, which is your prerogative.  I respect your point of view as well.  And as for dog breeders and do I know who I'm talking about, I should point out that I don't consider people that just have a couple of unaltered dogs and pumping puppies out like clockwork, to be breeders.  When I say dog breeder, I'm talking about someone with a passion for a given breed, who actually breeds to improve the breed.  I'm not talking about puppy mills.  And yes, most of the dog breeders I know, fall into my description.  Dogs in their homes or in secure kennels part of the day, clean and well maintained...All that.

I have no intention of arguing with you on that subject.  I will state simply that more stupid laws are just that, stupid.  The more righ

Got cut off...

I have no intention of arguing with you on that subject.  I will state simply that more stupid laws are just that, stupid.  The more rights we lose, in this country where we are supposed to be FREE, the fewer rights we will have left to lose.  If a dictatorship is your idea of a good life, then please go elsewhere besides the USA to enact it.  This is my final post on this subject, you know where I stand.  Have a nice one, OBGS!

Is Los Angeles the only place pure bread dogs can be bought? So people in Los Angeles would have to buy their dogs from other places well what is wrong with that. You do not have to have pure bread breeders in every state do you.Have a nice one.

Held I hope for your sake you are just being purposely obtuse because someone would have to be awful dense not to understand the AR organizations agenda.  AR groups think ALL breeders are puppy mills, they don't want anyone breeding purebred dogs EVER no matter how good they are. This isn't about  having to buy your dogs elsewhere, it's about people who have done nothing wrong,  losing their livelihood and being forced out,  under the  guise of getting rid of puppy mills. If you think this will not happen elsewhere, especially if something like this happens in Los Angeles, then  you are extremely naive.   If you don't live under a rock I hope you also understand these days a breeder can't simply pick up and move.  Are you aware of the current real estate market in the entire United States?   Or do you have no problem with many good breeders who have done nothing wrong, worked hard, and bred quality dogs losing everything they have worked for?    If that's the case,  there's nothing to be said for you anyway.

Sue, have you heard of this situation yet?

http://sanityshome.blogspot.com/2009/11/dog-show-victim.html

Now, I realize the police report the woman had a partially obscured plate, but this whole story just has to make you wonder.  How many exhibitors sometimes forget copies of their entries?  It does happen on occasion to those entered in AKC shows.

Recently, Jillian Michaels of The Biggest Loser fame was photographed wearing a shirt that read, "Fight Breedism".  Now, I didn't realize there was even such a thing as "breedism", much less a burning need to fight it.  You can read the account here:

http://blog.peta.org/archives/2009/11/jillian_michaels.php

We've got to stay aware and we've got to think of solutions to local dog problems that are pro-active, because the animal rightists are NOT making distinctions between responsible breeders and "puppy mills".

No MickeyD I had not seen either of those stories, and it is frightening, and you are 100% right.  Look at the couple of comments left after the Biggest Loser story.  "I am against breeders".  Looks like the AR groups have definetly got their message across to the general public - no more purbred dog breeders, if the AR fanatics have their way.

Just when you think you've seen it all:

http://www.latimes.com/news/nation-and-world/la-na-sheepdog-attack27-2009nov27,0,7742604.story

Ranching, recreation collide in the great outdoors
The mountain biker was excited about her big race in Colorado's wilderness. And nothing irked the sheepherder like the sports crowd. It was a disaster waiting to happen.

"As soon as Renee Legro saw the sheep, she screamed.

Legro, 33, screamed because she knew what came with the herd -- guard dogs. Shortly after she rolled down a hill and came upon the sheep, a dog leaped at her, locked its jaws on her hip and yanked her off her bike."
