For me it would be Come which would also serve as out.
And Stay seems to me would be the most useful second command.
Everything else could run on instinct.
Pretty basic...stop....and go.

Everything can be accomplished with a dogby using:
1) Down or platz, whatever you prefer
and
2) Out - whatever is in your mouth has to go out.
If it doesn't go out, refer to Number 1
The rest is polishing and icing on the cake.

I think I agree with Jim (I agree with most everything he says); however, I hope my dog would self deploy and pass auff given the right situation.
And I think I would take Adi's "icing on the cake" anytime I can!

Mirasmom,
Sorry to hear about the loss of the dog, she was beautiful. I hope the owner gets some training for his next dog.
This is an interesting thread and can be different for everyone and their own dog's needs. For my current dog it is definitely platz and out. I know this dog will "Pass auf" and "packen" on his own. He is trained in handler protection and doesn't need a command to bite. He's proven this several times already, however, he really needs an "out" command to release. He will "out" equipment a whole lot faster than a person with no suit or sleeve. So I need to be very vigilant with the out. I'm not worried about this dog coming to me, I'm more concerned about what he does to a bad guy when he gets there. With other dogs I may want a Platz and here or a platz and "pass auf".
Although, I have so many commands for this dog in English, German and hand signals I'd be lost with only two.
Davren,
Jim

For me, with a pet dog who does the sport the two commands that I rely most heavily on are "Platz" and "Aus".

"Platz" and "pfui"?
