You... bred a maskless GSD? Why?
The gene for reverse mask and for lack of a mask is recessive, so it wouldn't necessarily show up in the pups. Not something I would do, but maybe there were other reasons and characteristics he/she wanted to pass on. [shrug]

Its a fault, and a serious one, at that.
Why would you breed a SERIOUSLY faulty dog???
Recessive? That's hardly an argument for breeding a faulty dog.

Gasp!! Yes, I bred a maskless gsd. The AKC breed standards mention faded colors as a fault, nothing is specifically stated about "no mask" or a "reverse mask" being a fault. From the AKC web site:
" Color: The German Shepherd Dog varies in color, and most colors are permissible. Strong rich colors are preferred. Pale, washed-out colors and blues or livers are serious faults. A white dog must be disqualified."
My female is maskless, but her tan and black colors are not faded. I am a Biology teacher and teach Genetics---I knew the dark rich colors of my male would be dominant. This was a litter that was requested by friends over a year ago--great homes awaiting the pups. I talked to someone who has a maskless gsd that competes in AKC herding trials and they have not been faulted because their gsd is maskless. My dogs have great pedigrees from working lines which include Sieger lines, herding dogs, police dogs, etc. My male was bred for police/military service by a breeder who is a retired military veteran.
Some people on this site think they "know it all." They need to "get over themselves."
