Kalibeck, It is amazing how people treat you. You look healthy, so when you ask for help, they look at you like your lazy or someone who feels they are above it all. I went to the store to pick up some items for my Mom and asked them to bag them light, the guy had a fit. I left the stuff there and walked out. I sure received an education thru all of this.
I have been thrown by a horse, into a barbed wire fence, have those scars on my back. I call all of the scares from the animals, notes from my friends advising me I need to improve on something. . I have heard of the lady who began sch in her 50's, gave me hope that when I retired I could spend all darn day out there. Think I am going to have to cut my hours on that one.
VomMarischal, I broke my tail bone years ago, Yuck, you can not sit or stand just plain unhappy.

God smile on all of you ladies, & you too, Steve! I think we can all push thru the pain, it's the attitudes that throw you! But that's one karma that'll come back to bite each & every one of those haters.....IF they're lucky enough to live long enough, & have the nads to keep trying, like us! Der Alzheimers Gruppe!

I'm heartened by what I read on this thread... never say die, right? I'm learning Sch for the first time... the wrong side of 50, overweight, (very) unfit and cranky... lol. It's been killing me just having a puppy for the first time in 13 years!

The over weight and fitness bit can be sorted by getting up very early in the morning and once the pup is old enough to take for a nice long walk, The Cranky bit i fear is much harder to over come or control for i have been classed as being Cranky for Years and Years in fact some say i was born Cranky
Over weight i am not well maybe a couple of lbs more than last summer due to the filling Beef and Gammon Stews i made during this Winter to keep the Cold away
No, you are not too old to start the Sch Sport, i am sure you will enjoy it If you get your Pup to the Obed stage of walking and going down it is worth a lot of time
And the best way to get them going down is to put a piece of Carpet on the ground in your Garden, then kneel on it get the Pup to sit then say the word you are going to use for the down and drop a bit of kibble in front of it and it will lay down, to keep it there for 5 seconds drop another kibble and each time say the word for down. then let it sit and repeat, a couple of times a day. After a time the word you use for down will click and the Pup will respond to that word wherever it may be, but one place with the carpet as a tool to start it off, when it sees the piece of carpet it knows what is going to happen after a few times doing it
One thing though keep the Pup on a short leash at all times so it cannot go away from you after it goes down easy then genltly stroke its back when it is in the down postition as you give it a bit of kibble saying the down word as you give it But never force it into a down postition

Well... thank you all very much for the kind words!
Jimmy's not so little anymore, he's 8 months! He does basic Ob and everything else has to wait till his ringcraft has been perfected... don't you wrinkle your noses now! LOL Yes, he's showline, a Zamp son and as drivey as you like.
I turned him (Jimmy) down (tho' I wanted him badly) because I knew that Buddy would not want a puppy round his feet at 12.5 and doddery, but Buddy went downhill overnight and had to be PTS in August of last year... so, I had Jimmy. Josh pretended he couldn't see him for the first week, then gave in and had great times playing with him. It was a real shock when I had to have Josh PTS on the 24th November last year... totally unexpected and I'm still smarting about it, he wasn't even 9 years old.
So... Jimmy's keen to do everything... at 100 miles per hour, he can hardly contain himself. I'm hoping to get a few private lessons in Sch in the spring and take it from there. I'll keep you posted, warts and all, thanks for being interested and not too young!!! LOL

Hey, you all are amazing, you all need to pat yourselves on the back for job(s) well done. I will also try with my next GSD; probably will have to have a handler, but I don't care, it will be worth it. My current boy is 7 l/2 years old and don't want to push him at this point, not the best elbows and is also my beloved service dog. I am in a wheelchair with spinal cord injury for life so the service dog(s) are a very important part of my life.
I hope he has a lot a healthy good years ahead of him. Nan
