O/T Is this a Trend? - Page 4

There is a reason I love the Turner Classic Movie Channel. A lot of the old flicks  from the 30's, 40's, 50's, even into the 60's, take me back to a much simpler, more civilized time in our country and our culture's history. Where are Irene Dunn, Marlene Dietrich and Kate Hepburn, Cary Grant, John Wayne and Van Heflen when we need them? Why is rude behavior no longer shocking? Why can't a few well-chosen words (or one good right cross) cause it to stop in its tracks?
When my old southern-belle grandmother died at age 78 in 1989 I knew it was her time, at the time. Her world, the one she was comfortable in, polite but exciting, (she traveled the world on ships) and her like-minded friends, were gone. She tried to keep up, sharp-minded and curious till the end, but she couldn't.

Little did I know I would start to feel that way about my world, having been raised in the 50's and 60's, would feel the same way some day, let alone so soon.

 Yes, it is a trend and will only get worst. Remember a few weeks ago when Homeland Security put out a report. A report that was requested by George the retard I might add. The right wing lords of loud talk on radio,foxnews and even msnbc ranted and rave. How the right wing nut-jobs aren't dangerous and Pinko Commie Secret Jew Muslim Magical Negro Obama was trying to suppress their free speech.

Yeah, those good old days, when it was ok for a man to rape his wife, when women could be discriminated against on the basis of their sex,  those good ole days before women were placed under the Eqaul Pay Act and employers could legally justify paying women less merely because they were female, those good old days when bosses could sexually harrass their female employees women with impunity because there were no pesky legal repercussions.  

And lest we foget, how about those good ole days when womens roles were so clearly defined.  If a girl wanted to go into the medical profession she was encouraged to go into nursing, not medical school (where women were discriminated against and denied entry even with equal qualifications as men) and forget about the old boys surgeon club.  Or if she was inclined to go into business, well the good little girl could become a secretary to a captain of industry, but not be the captain of industry.  How about women police officers - sure, but only fit to sit behind a desk prior to the modern womens movement.  As a man once said "et cetera et cetera et cetera"

Oh yeah, damn those women libber feminists, what a bunch of trouble makers, life was sooooo much better prior to the womens movement.................uh huh.

I, too, must commend you on your attempts to introduce an element of reasoned discussion but the admonition that comes to mind is: "never wrestle with a pig - you'll both get dirty but only the pig will enjoy it"

Anyone who would refer to a woman as a "vagina" shows a singular lack of class. Anyone, whose counter to a reasoned response is to tell you to STFU is incapable of a meaningful discussion.

Hard to imagine anyone raping or hitting Kate Hepburn and getting away with it without some memorable form of retaliation.

Anyone who thinks gender-based discrimination is a thing of the past is kidding themself. Ditto for race, age, religion... Sad but true. My Dad campaigned, in his own way, at work and socially, for anti-discrimination all his life. Its better thanit was 50-60 yrs ago, but far from gone. I'd like to say, honestly, that I will live to see the day those things really do go away completely, progress accelerate, but I'm not so sure I will. One quick trip to the hunt club up the street on a Saturday afternoon, hearing the would-be normies talk off the record, behind closed doors, is pretty depressing. I get so pissed off I have to turn right around and walk out after a couple of minutes. No point in trying to talk to them. Makes me itch just to hear stuff like that. But if they were going to change INSIDE they'd have done it by now. Even when I can get the ex-servicemen to admit they owe their lives to someone who was/is, indeed, a minority, they still spew racial epithets a minute later. Talk about some two-faced SOB's. I'll bet they don't talk like that at work or at PTA meetings!

But these same slobs are doing the hiring at their places of business. They just don't disclose their criteria for failing to hire, promote, hide behind shadows learned in back-room sensitivty training and the fear of harrassment proceedings, an art in itself these days.

I wish it would stop raining.

KTF:  You are 100% right as rain as usual, obviously there is no room for reasonable discussion here, only hysteria and sensationalism.  I will take your advise and leave them to wallow in this mess by themselves.
