Somewhat off the subject of the diagnosis and treatment... But I'm just curious: why wasn't a Parvo ELISA test done? No, I don't think it's Parvo, but should there have been indications doesn't it seem strange that vet would test for titers rather than do a snap test that takes minutes? And in a young pup with persistent diarhhea? Perhaps, I lack the knowledge to question vet's judgement, but magine that it IS Parvo... by the time titers come back the dog could be dead.

There were so many tests done, a few were done in office and overnight with almost immediate results, but she did do more as well that had to be sent away and still waiting for.  But we feel pretty good that it's not Parvo now.  Today is her last day on her current medication (Panacur) and wants to redo it again in three weeks.  Luckily the b12 shots are less than $10 each so I'll let the vet do them (I just don't think I could do it).

Ole Roy???  The pup has probably been malnourished from weaning. How did the rest of the breeder's dogs look on that crap? Get her on a good lg breed puppy diet, small feedings, (good advice above) no supplements to further upset her system, and stick with it. She's very cute. Hopefully the vet will figure out what's wrong and she'll be fine.

Thanks Shelley

Yes we spoke to toher GSD owners and some owners at a specialized dog store and put her on the puppy orijen.  She loves it.  I have a feeling the breeder most likely had her good dogs on better food (I hope) because I met the sire (he's a show dog) and he looked fabulous!  Maybe just the puppies they plan on selling to others get the Ol Roy.  I reall don't know for sure though.  The puppies were in the house and the sires and dams were all out back in large kennels.

On a side note, last night I took her out at midnight to do her business and then again when I got up at 6am and for the first time since we brought her home she had no accidents overnight!  Yay!

What has the Breeder offered to do?

I guess from all your research on the Breeder, you must of felt very comfortable when you seen this.

"Quality A-1
All pups sold with a 5 year written guarantee."

This one I find odd also

"My Dogs are Canadian Born and Bred"

But the Sire Pedigree is from the AKC.

You did also call the CKC, and ask if the Breeder was a member in good standing, & the Litter was Reg'd?

She's adorable, hopefully she is on the mend. Orijen is an excellent food, mine have always had good stools on Orijen. Good luck, please update us on how your pup's doing! What's puppy's name? jackie harris

Deejay:  The 5 year written guarantee did make me feel good.  As for born in Canada, that is just to point out she doesn't ship from Germany (which is what we wanted to stay away from).  We went onsite and saw the kennels and the dogs (the sire was there).  Everything was good.  No red flags.  At the time I didn't know the rating of the dog food.

Kali:  She seems to be doing much better now.  Her stool is still very soft, but not usually runny anymore.  She is gaining weight and playing lots!  She has to get a b12 shot every week and the vet feels she can get her second set of vaccines now.

She is sleeping on my feet right now.  :)

Just curious as how your little girl is doing?  Did her stools firm up?  We went through a similar phase when we brought our pup home and it seemed to take forever.  We used canned pumpkin for a couple of months at least if not more and that did the trick.  She is off the pumpkin now and has a loose stool only occassionally.

Hope things are going well!

Hi Deb.

Things are going pretty good.  Her stool is looking much better, still a little soft, but no more chocolate pudding piles.  :)

She is almost 20 pounds now at age 14 weeks (which I know is not big, but for her it is huge!)  The vet was impressed at her rate of growth.

She still has a few weeks left of B12 shots and she also has to have Tylosin powder with her afternoon feeding.  Other than that she is happy as a clam.  Had to get her a new leash and collar as she quickly outgrew the puppy stuff I purchased for her.

We also just picked up the second puppy so now she has a friend.

Great news!

Soooo good to hear she is doing much better.  I'm not familiar with Tylosin powder.  What's it for or supposed to do for her?  If her stools are still soft, you might want to add about a 1/4 cup of canned pumpkin to each of her meals.  It won't constipate her, just firms things up nicely, makes for easy clean up.  Thanks for letting us know how she is doing.  Post some more pics of her and her new buddy for us to enjoy.

Regards!
Deb
