Gator113,

My words were my honest opinion, not kindness.

Thank you. I love my boy to death already. He's quickly becoming my guardian angel.

I have seen so many great looking dogs on the web, and I am new to GSD's, so I appreciate it when others think he looks ok.

we have a male gsd and a rescue who we believe is a mali or mali/gsd mix. angus is ~95 lbs (he's oversized) and claire is ~55lbs. she's roughly 6 months older than him. she is very high drive  and he is much more mellow. she completely rules him.  if i get extra $ to "throw away" (hah), i'll do a dna search on her, but she looks nearly identical to the mali avatar on the database site (except feminine). i think the male/female combo is the best and safest. their "issues" tend to be different so it's isn't the same competition (at least at my house). btw, your dog is really nice looking.

malshep- What GORGEOUS malinois you have there!

BTW- I do not keep two same sex dogs together. PERIOD. You have to be vigilant about heat cycles with a male and a femlae, and have a lock-down kennel for when she is in heat, but most opposite sex dogs get along fine together IMO. (except Ali) especially if they are younger when introduced.

Shelly and J,  I watched this mal's mom work for two years along with the father.  This pup is going to do well with Schutzhund. The parents are very balanced dogs.

Gator, your male is nice and solid, and looks happy, and you are so sold on GSD, they came out of no where for me, Mals are hard hitting  working dogs that are meant for police and military work, it sounds like you want to go in woods, camping and such

I dont know what happened in the purchase ,but your male is nice and will come up to what you can do, more is doing police work and left to mals and the young, and you dont want a dog that will  take you for a ride, GSD will usually adjust to your demands, mals have their own ideas, and they have  will and strenght to go there, I would go and watch them work ,you can also catch them work on u-tube, Unless you want to work the dog then go with a gsd who will work you HA  and your guy looks great  just get a female and if you want more then go to heavy german/czeck blood lines they will give you a run for your money

Gator I think your pup is a very nice looking dog. And I agree with the other that a female would be better for you.  I have 3 males and 1 female and I can tell you it's a real treat rotating them around; especially when the "Queen" is in heat. lol

I thought at first I might have gotten lucky when I brought Agar's son home; they got along perfectly up until the pup hit around 8 months old.  Agar was still tolerant of him as long as it was understood he was "top dog" but as time went on the pup started coming into his own and wanted to reclaim some "manhood" and his father was having none of that. I can never ever leave them run together unsupervised.  I suspect my young male is the instigator because my bitch doesn't care for him either.  If he's out training other dogs don't phase him, but at home he will try to be the alpha and that causes a "square off session".  My Agar and Rosa are 2 peas in a pod; best of buds, never an issue.  Now I have an 8 month old male, also Agar's son and thus far they get along fine. I can attribute it to the pup is still like a big baby hughey and really could care less who's boss just yet.  He's got a more laid back whatever type of attitude so maybe they will always be respectful on one anothers space but never the less they will still always be monitored for everyone's safety.

It really is just too hard to tell if 2 dogs, same sex or not will live in harmony.  My neighbor up the road has a female pup from me that lives in a house with 2 little ugly shaggy breed dogs...they sleep together. lol  The little dogs were there first but seem to be willing to share their space. When the little guys get on the GSD's nerves she just swats them with her big paws, pins them to the ground and they start waving the white flag. LOL

I myself am not a big Mali fan...I'd need much medication to keep up with one in my house and don't have the patience. But too each their own.  IMO a well bred GSD is the best breed out there weather you want it for sport, police, or to pal around with the family.

I am curious why you have a bad taste left in your mouth with the GSD's???  Your pup seems beautiful.  Was it that you felt you paid too much??  If he's healthy and makes you happy then I'm sure he was worth the price.
