No Adel you are not right. I would be more concerned in the way you raised your first pup and try to figure out if anything you did, made him softer than you would have liked. If you put allot of rules on him in the first year or 2 that could happen. I suggest you read read read and try to learn as much as you can about dogs, how to raise a good strong puppy and how to pick a good prospect for what "you" are looking for.

It sounds to me you have a really nice family dog. I think you should work with him. Although I know what your concern is in your original post, I think you should train your dog to speak everytime there's a knock at the door. I had to do that once. Next, he would bark at everything and everyone driving or walking up the lane he thought would get to the door. LOL
Funny how things work.

My GSD is a showline male german/english ancestors who was a real worry with protection issues by 6 months of age, barking at strangers, chasing them if he had a chance, hated other dogs to the point he would lunge at strangers trying to snap at them by 12 months. Around 15/16 months, my wife was fearfully stressed that he would bite someone as he bailed a few people up entering our yard on a few occassions.
We have just now at 19 months of age, trained most of the unwanted aggression from him where he will listen and not react if we tell him lay down and stay. If he is restrained on a lead and a stranger approaches too close to us, he is quite and behaves, but should someone act agressively towards us, he would attack them for sure, no question. Strangely he is the most easy going placid dog with us, can do anything with him, take food from his mouth, anything without ever showing the slightest hint of aggression, but with strangers you can see he restrains himself to behave, but would be more content at scaring them away.
When he does bark and scare people who he considers are too close to us or our property, the look of achievement on his face afterwards is like, "did you like the way I got rid of them, did I do a good job???" is how he seems to react???.
