Molly,
You own the dog on paper. I don't see why so many are saying it's a "he said- she said". I had the same idea as Yvette. Chances are her ex is not too keen on her and will probably help you out, or if you get the idea he doesn't hate her, act like you simply lost touch and wanted to surprise her. Men can be stupid (sorry guys!). I would have no problem stealing the dog back, but it could be dangerous and could backfire if you got caught before you were successful. Did she sign anything before you sent the dog off with her? Anything about payment terms?

If this woman doesn't have the morals or ethics to give your dog back, what makes you think she's not going to lie her way out of it? People like this have done this sort of thing before...she's probably gotten away with it more than once. The papers being in your name aren't even an issue to her. She'll probably just get some made up in her name.
However, having said that, I do agree with Jenni and Yvette. Try to find the ex.
