Bancroft

How  old are you, I said i have handled and bought up  Dogs from Pups for 57 years solid and without a break I am certainly  not a beginner with Dogs

I have never had a problenm with the skin of any dog i ever owned, Nor any real health issues. I have been about and rode the best Race Horses Steeplechasers and Flat Horses for many years

I have owned, bred Raced and still do some of the best racing pigeons in the UK now doing so over here in Belgium

So live stock of all kinds and conditioning and socialising them is not new to me, I have helped train and break Horses is that not socailising

I have in 57 years only had one dogwitha problem and that is one of rhe present ones, a Meart Protein allergy

No fault of mine or the breeders But i made it my duty to find out what was wrong with the Dog, I did not ask any forum i had a good idea based on 69 years of experience with all kinds of live stock,

The Dog now lives a full healthy life

I have sat for Nights  on end  in a huge wood for several months in the summers studying Badgers and Foxes and watching the Cubs at play, even getting them to trust me, so my life has not been spent doing nothing regards animals

Langhaar and Bancroft

You really want to see the best work there Dogs it will not be in England, it will be over this side of the water,

Of course ScHh is not the be all and end all, Dogs are companions and friends first because if they are not then you had better not waste time trying to work or do anything else with them

Get over here you will certainly learn something watching the top boys over here work, many English ScHh people do that, come over here to train there Dogs, Nice people too and they come back on a regular basis so it must be saying something, Even the UK WUSV competitors do come and train at outr club

It is you who need to read my posts more carefully

I never said that Schh Pups should not be allowed to mix and play with other Dogs,

What i said was i will not let an 8 week old Pup mix with other Dogs BEFORE it has its vaccinations not even my own, a completly different think to what you are saying that i have said

After its vaccinations then yes, it can and does, but not old dogs at that age only pups some of course older pups but still pups

And i have now repeated it several times, yet you fail to see it

And if you or your club members let Dogs mingle and play on the ScHh field it is not me who is the beginner but yourself

To do that is stupid and you would not be allowed to do it over here in Belgium

The work field is for work only and not for Dogs to play and mingle

Off the field Pups can do so, but you will NEVER see a handler allow a full grown dog to play and mingle with other Dogs

On or off the work field

Ask Rinus Bastianssen, Frans Smeulders Zenders owner, Ronny van den Berge etc, they will give you a quick reply on what you will not do on the working field over here

This has gone on long enough, i for one will never change a proven method  going on towards 60 odd years of keeping dogs,

But come over here and try your methods out, you will soon be driving back through the gates,

Yes, Bancroft, Adult Dogs of your own or say a neighbours yu can trust, you know full well they can intergrate OFF the Work field and my Pup will once its had ite vaccinations but not before, and this is what i have been saying all along NOT before its vaccinations

Regards our Clubs and i cannot speak for every club in tiny Belgium about  40 ScHh clubs or more

In our Club a 8 week old Pup would not be let loose with the Older Dogs, in fact i as i have repeatdly said an 8 week old pup will not be expected to be bought along to the club at that age SEE above reasons and many other Posts

Once it gets to the stage when it can get out of the way say 12 -14 weeks old then it can nose about with other dogs at the other owners say so,

But NO one will let there Older Dog of the leash to play around with a Young Pup like that even off the work field, not at our club, I do not know what your game is but reading your posts you are not so well up on the ScHh sport as you think you are

In fact the way you write you are not a very responsible person at all with 8 week old Pups

Let us do it your way

I pick my 8 week old Pup up today, Sunday is a training at the Club

I take this new Pup from my home it is still not sure where it is and i take it off to the club show it all around let people stroke and pet it

Then let other Dogs  who have just come off the working field have a nose around with it

Now that is your way

But more so because you advocate it  be left to intergrate with a lot of full grown Dogs and You will not know the temperment of every persons dog at the club as to where those dogs take to a strange pup nosing them or nipping at them but i do not imagine an 8 week old Pup likr i describe above doing that

And what happens if one of those adult dogs snaps at the Pup, what will that do to the Pup, not a lot of good, they remember everything even when so young, I will not chance it happening to mine

I would rather think the Pup will be overwhelmed by it all and not be happy in the situation

Remember it is only two days since it left its litter mates and mother

But then i guess you have won the WUSV Championships several times or at least been up among the winners several times, and where ever you live i guess you are among the countries top ScHh trainers

Well the people i quote are, and they must be doing something right

In those Three People i mention there is over One Hundred years of German Shepherd dog experience

Four times WUSV Champion Belgian Champions, Interland Champions, and Breeders of WUSV Champions

and you have the audacity of asking me if they know what these people are doing and are there dogs so vicious regards meeting other Dogs,

they will not condone the practice of an 8 week old Pup playing with there older dogs and being a stranger at that,

Match the performances of those people above i can keep adding to the list if you wish,

if you cannot then do not talk stupid

And have you bought on Dogs like i have for getting on 60 years,

Each one of my dogs various breeds were all trained to a high standard of Obedinance,

Each and every one worked by my side as if they were on the SCHh field doing an obedinace program, they were highly trained dogs, But they did not do the tracking or protection as they were not for the sport but  for obedinance they could match most G.S dogs working

No, i am certainly not a beginner with Dogs far from it,

Bancroft

When i joined this Forum, i said then excatly how long i had been interested in the sport od ScHh. Look it up

I had nothing to hide then but i will not repeat it to you as i said look back if you are that interested

I have however bought many Dogs up to the level of Obedinance of the ScHh sport , that without question

but in those days i was not interested in the sport of ScHh

Plus i had no time to spend doing it,

i worked a full days work ,

Spent three hours a night,  6 days a week practising Karate, before going to that lesson 30minutes down the multi gym

In the mornings i had the PIgeons to see to and whist they were excersising i went for a 10 km run

On Sundays i rode out the Steeplechasers for the race horse trainers as a bit of a relaxation, plus doing a bit of hunting and a few Show jumping contests when i could find the odd day

So i came into the ScHh sport a little late in life

It looks to me as sif you are a Dog pet owner, And you know very little of the Sport  its self

You can take your dog down to a general pet club and let them mix together, but Sporting Dogs are not like those Dogs although you can meet some unruly dogs there

I never take my Dogs to a Dog park not even in England ,and we do not have Dog parks here in Belgium that i know of

Myself , compared to the ones i mentioned i am a beginner, but saying that i am no fool, i have some the best helpers possible in Belgium to guide me,

And although i am consided to be an oldster over here and anywhere else in the World, i can still outdo and outrun a lot of youngsters less than half my age, regards a lot of things

I for one can run around 8 to 10 kms and not finish out of breath,

i can work for 12 hours and still look for something else to do, not bad for coming up 70 years of age

I can still stop an attack from anyone trying say to Rob me or abuse me, providing they are not carrying a Gun,A Knife can be taken away or disarm them say 90 times out of a hundred, nothing there is 100% meaning even at my age i can still look after myself, how many 70 year old can say that

Now the boasting on what i can and cannot do is over i have not said it to impress anyone i do not need to, the only person i have to prove anything to is myself, and that is all i have done all my life

i will tell you what happens at our ScHh club

This i have already said

Two Dogs go on the working field as if in a competition. we are talking now for obedinance

One goes into the long down, The Other dog and handler do there work, then the dog on the field goes on the long down and the second Dog does his work

After both are done they DO not let the dogs nose around each other, they take them back to the Dog Trailers and give them a drink and leave them alone

Then the next pair come on and do the same and so forth

NO handler lets his dogs mix together, they are there to work,  not socialise and play, You talk about vicoius dogs on the club grounds they are not given the chance to show anything about being vicous, Now the reason being this is my way of thinking, if a Dog takes a dislike to another Dog it will be impossible to work them on the field together

They are taught at a young age to be compatable with each other and this is where we come to the mixing bit, and i have said now so many times on this thread

All pups have a separate part to play and mix with each other, in  BUT not at 8 weeks old they do not once vaccinations are over then yes, i have said so

No, member will let his older dog play with another  dog at the Club

The Dogs are in a high state of drive once obedinance is over they know they will go on protection, so they rest until there time comes round for that
