This dogs pups are being sold with provisional AKC papers. the next 3 generations have to be DNA'd then after 3 gen. of DNA'd dogs, AKC will give the progeny full AKC reg.
the dogs had their parentage DNA tested, but the problem was the sires sire was dead and there fore could not be DNA'd. wehther there is a mix back there, I don't know.
but I do know a breeder in Tenn who has a brindle female from this pair. she HAS also been DNA'd and when bred her pups will also be DNA'd and sold with provisional AKC papers.

The brindling pattern actually is a relative unknown...unlike with the white masking gene the Locus that controls bridling has not been mapped yet.
I havent read up as much on brindling as on other colors, but it is my understanding that the Brindle is a dominant allele at the K locus (The most dominant of which is Dominant Black), which also controls the fawn color that you see in Malinois.
I've always kind of assumed that a couple of lines probably do carry brindle...but that the majority if brindling you see comes from mixed in Dutchy lines...I've sort of always been under the impression that here or there some of the hardcore working line breeders in Europe occasionally pull in a Maly or a Dutchy...can't say for sure though.
Molly -- the dog not displaying a mask has nothing to do with it being purebred or not. The Mask is controlled at the E locus...and is the most dominant gene -- but the second allele is no mask and the recessive allele is white. The GSD displays all three of these geneotypes on a fairly frequent basis.

if the pedigree posted is in fact his lines, then I can say I have a viernheimi female here closely related on the mother's side and she has a small barely there mask on her face. her face doesn't have any black on it except for the lining of her lips

V terenházi fina
HD-SV: HD a-Ausland (a6)

The K9 cop in my town just got a new puppy to raise as a K9 prospect. The 10 week puppy is a dark brindle with black blanket back. The cop says he's purebred GSD, but I think the dog has got some Dutchie mixed in. I don't have any photos but this is going to be one gorgeous dog. I thought the pup was black sable at first but a closer look showed brindle on the legs and chest. I'll have to ask him for the ped the next time we get together and train.

I have seen bi-colors with what appears to be brindling on their tan markings on the legs. The bi's that I've seen with this have all been american show lines.
