Zac - I wondered that.
It would be good if the Breed Council identified them.

David is right! about preperation for a meeting, that gives 3months to get it right, to have a clear mandate about our aims, and objectives. Everyone who knows a breed club secretary, contact them! badger them! dont let them have a minuets peace! till they in turn chase the breed council delegates who will be at that meeting in November. These delegates need to understand the mood of the people in this breed. Make sure there is no missundestanding, about what the breed clubs want! need! and the minimum they will settle for. This is the time to build a momentum so strong, so determined, the K.C. will want to say, YES!!! O.K.!!! Failure must not be an option! As (missbeeb) said, HOW CAN WE HELP? thats the kind of attitude we need! start a petition! chase your M.P. I'm sure there are loads of Idea's out there! (Zac) Have faith! if we do this right, the Breed Council will succeed. SO!! "EVERYONE" OFF YOU'RE BACK LEGS AND LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!! Bill Owen.

Beepy, It was unfair of me to ask how many because I already know there are VERY few active breeders names on the Breed Council list. No one enforces it and it has never been reviewed in YEARS. Even decades:(.
How much easier it must be to blame KC for this fine mess they got us into.

Zac in making that comment you have highlighted the lack of influence of the breed council on our breeders. How can we get the KC to implement positive changes if we cannot get them within our own breed?
It is only when the breed council gets more breeders signed up to a tighted up breeder's charter it can then put more pressure on the KC to change. We need judges to be looking past a pretty face in the ring and for the Survey's to be more critical and for the dogs to meet tighter requirements. After all if things dont change we cant move on. We need to show elbow scores on the requirement s as well as reducing the hip scores for class 1 dogs. Having skimmed through the guidelines my decrepid 12 year old would pass a class 2 survey and would have done a 1 if he had more of his teeth!
Rather than everyone moaning that things arent being done, people need to start putting forward suggestions as to what should go into an improved breeders charter, what judges should be looking for and how we can monitor the progeny so that we dont have a case of deja vu in another 10 years time, with people saying all of these things all over again.

Well... you know what they say... a camel was a horse designed by a committee! There's some truth in that but there's NO point in bleating about the past... you can't change the past. We all know (don't we?) that apathy is our worst enemy not the KC and certainly not the BC.
This is a real chance for change, let's put our efforts into being united (divided we fall) for once... what about a letter to the KC from each and every one of us? Maybe the BC could advise on the exact content?

All these ideas but other than writing on here about what should be done, what are these idea-lists doing themselves? Sweet F all thats what, er , other than pass the buck by telling others to do it for them. Talk is easy, doing is the hard part, so no surprise that history dictates those who shout the loudest are usually those who do the least.

As someone who has yet to breed my first litter, I am all for introduction and implementation of as much improvement for the breed as possible, however seeing as on other threads I have been labelled a newbie with no idea it makes me less inclined to put my head on the chopping block straight off. However, having said that, I am young enough to be a part of the future of the GSD and although I am not driven enough to go to all the shows etc., I would love to have a part in tightening up the breed, the reworking of the Breed Council's Breeder's charter and be a part of the future of all dogs having health checks and the introduction of an assessment programme for the progeny of stud dogs, and hopefully prevent the excessive over use of a couple of dogs who would have the potential to damage the breed further.

beepy why not put your proposals in writing to the breed council then? You too patrick lets see if you are as good at doing as you are about telling others what to do. Doubt it.

Ok I will do that.
We also have the junior handling day coming up in September, what better time for us to get together and talk about the future of our breed whilst we watch our kids having fun? After all hopefully some of these kids will be those who go on to breed future generations of this fab breed.

Beepy, good for you, don't be put off by dreary pessimists... they're 10 a penny!!!
I'm hoping that someone from the BC can help by advising as previously posted but if I hear nothing by tomorrow, I will contact the BC and ask for advice on Tuesday.
