smartguy1469 - We didn't purchase that aggressive dog (pit bull x fence jumper mix), it was dumped on us. That woman asked asked us to watch it for a week while she moved and after repeated phone calls, she refused to come and get it. Best I can tell we extended its life by 2 1/2 years because we found out latter, she was going to take it to the pound to have it pts. He was an escape artist and it go to the point where I had to walk around the house with a broom and never turn my back on this dog or he would attack me. After spending thousands in training and having friends and family members bit is what we ended up putting the dog down on the insistence of our local police force.

Glad you're getting a kennel. Using concrete blocks from end to end as paving is a very good idea. It will keep them form digging and will help with clean up. Once the blocks are set, spread playground sand on top and sweep it into the cracks it will help to keep the blocks in place.  Try to make sure the kennel is in an area where water flows away so when it rains, it doesn't bend up being a swamp and there is summer shade if possible.

On another post, a dog recently scaled the side of its 6 foot tall chain link fence kennel and tore the center pad almost in half. The dog had several stitches and was in a great deal of pain and the recover time was very long. You might want to consider one of those shade cloths or some type of other fencing on top to keep this happening to your dogs. When your female goes into heet, don't put it past a stray to scale such a fence, or to dig under it (blocks and all), your best bet would be to keep her in a crate indoors and to only let her out when supervised.

Just one more thing to consider - every year the pro animal folks try to shove new legislation down our throats. In many states a kennel must be more then 150 square feet. I don't know where you live or if your state has already caved on this issue. Its a good thing to keep in mind. If you purchase smaller kennels, you may be cited for keeping a dog in a too small enclosure.......

Good luck on your trials, hope you and dog take home high point!

Dang, dude, you were lucky! I read someplace that any time you get that kind of hair-raising shocky kind of surprise, that is when you have the greatest opportunity for learning. And you are obviously a quick study, dummies don't get their dogs titled HOT. Folks here have made excellent suggestions. Could you post a couple pictures of your dogs? Please, until you get the portable kennels up, crate them. They will be OK...it's only temporary...& they will be safe. And full of piss & vinegar when you get home! Good luck, jackie harris

I have had dog kennels in different homes for many years, but I still have NEVER left then out in the dog run when I'm not home. My dogs are securely crated (my older dogs are loose) in my locked home or in my locked garage when no one is there. WAY too many loonies out there to leave my dogs outdoors all alone in any circumstance. I have many people over the years harass my dogs, mysterious deaths in two dogs when I knew I had neighbors who disliked them. Whether you have a kennel, tie out, or a freakin' game fence...leave your dogs outdoors alone when you aren't around and they are at risk from god knows what.

Again thanks for the advice. I got my Sch1 today taking home High OB and HIgh Protection with High in trial. I was very proud. The judge was tough. I will leave it at that.  Congrats to everyone else who did the trial and passed.

I don't get it though. I know that many many people tie their dogs out with no problem. Not the way I keep my dogs, but I do own a tie out or two from before I built my kennels. I would use the swivel on the ground with no tree near by, and a dog house just close enough for the dog to get in, but not so close that she can go around back. the water buckets, atleast two on the edge of the circle where the dog can reach. OR you can tie a line between two trees, and slip a leash on the line so the dog can run between the trees with water on both ends, and a dog house. I don't see anything wrong with keeping a dog like that for four hours a day or so. I think it's an acceptable way to let the dog catch some fresh air while you clean the house or kennel, I might not like leaving the dog home out there, but if you have to... Can anybody think of a likely way a dog can get hurt in a situation like this?
