Boy dont i know it.It would kill me if my 4 year old would start doing this too. These dam dog food companies CONSTANTLY change formulas so that they can increase profits and that is fraustrating.I remember being told that sometimes a dog allergic to chicken will NOT react to the raw pure source but i guess every dog is different.I would like to thank you both for your input(Nancy,Blitzen).May we all have good luck with our dogs.By the way HAPPY HOLIDAYS. Hi Nancy, I guess the Hills diet and the Purina diet are based on the same idea- simply put, reducing the size of the protein molecules (? might not be the correct term LOL) so that the dog does not recognize them as protein?
I'm not big on commercial diets to prove food allergies. I think you are much more likley to get the correct results using a home-made diet. You must know everything that the dog is ingesting including treats, table food, flavored chewies. It's a royal pain. Pitcarin has some good allergy diets in his book, but all contain grains so if that's a concern, they probably won't be what you would want to try. However, he does have a very good chapter on allergies and the book is worth the price IMO.
Dominic, happy holidays to you too. I think it would really be interesting if we could track these allergic GSD's and record their pedigrees. Inhalation or food, all the same problem, an immune system that is compromised and that is genetic.
