Jyl- I forgot to mention that although I do not know Melanie or her dog personally Andy is a very nice dog. I've only seen videos but they were enough to impress me as they make an awesome team. His hips look good enough that I would be comfortable breeding with him and I think he'd be the better choice as a stud dog.

Agar, Great and sensible post.
Jyl, SInce you are in No Cal. Here's another dog for your consideration. My understanding is that he is CZ but I haven't see his pedigree. He's a working K9, VERY handsome and from what I've seen just that incorruptible character that everyone would die for. Here's some links to info on him.

Dantes was front and center in the fight against AB1634 this summer and was featured in a commercial against. Worth watching. Love the ending. http://youtube.com/results?search_query=dantes+ab1634&search=Search
There are some other pictures of him on the Petpac.net site under media but that page just crashes my ancient computer every time. They are in the photos of the July 11th rally after we got the bill held over until January. Plus don't know how to load pictures anyway but maybe someone else does. Dante was sharing the stage with Lassie, a pushy little GSD dwarf who thinks he rules the world :), a dominant GSD bitch who thought he was very handsome and surrounded by hundreds of people and dogs and 1 lonely little cat right behind him and he was just unflappable.

Thank you for the posts...I guess I wasnt clear...sorry...I was commenting on Lux for my DDR female. I think I am going to breed my Czech female to Andy after she is titled, KKL'd and OFA'd. The same goes for my DDR female, I want her titled, KKL'd and OFA'd before I breed her. I have had several great recommendations for Czech males. I was just wondering IF there are any nice DDR males in my area. Yes I do live in Northern California. The two DDR males that I have found that I really like are Aron vom Poppitz and Puck vom Grafental. I was just wondering if there are any other nice DDR males that are on the west coast, that are titled?

Another Czech male that I was told about is Bax Ayolla.

Does anyone have an Aron vom Poppitz puppy? If so how did they turn out? I am really thinking of breeding my DDR female to Aron after my female is titled and has her OFA done. Here is what the pedigree for the litter would look like....

Although stll a relatively young dog, Aron produced well when he was in Europe. For example, see http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/516511.html
He's been in the US for less than a year so his puppies here are stll too young. You might want to contact European kennels that used him. I don't know about his working ability but I know he is a very calm, balanced and stable house dog and family dog. His sire Don Clausberg is known for producing good working ability. Your proposed mating will be linebred on Tino, who just passed away this year. Like any popular stud dog, Tino's production was variable depending on the female he was used with. You have a very typey DDR female so she will definitely produce DDR phenotype when bred to DDR males. Now, the question is, does she have good DDR temperament? I believe DDR dogs should be evaluated differently from working lines for example because they are different, and that's the whole point of having different GSD types. Typcially, they will not show as well in the schutzund field. They also mature notoriously much slower so it is folly to videotape a young DDR dog because you will not be impressed by the tape. (I am somewhat referring to the comment above.) What a good DDR dog (and of course there are good and bad ones as in any type) brings to the table is a dog that can settle in the household, has stable nerves, no excessive drives, but will turn serious when pressured. They are also known to be very handler oriented so should be avoided by those who like to train in a heavy handed way.

Joe T...
As for my Czech female....She is a little handler soft. She has a great willingness to please me, which makes obedience easy, and is loaded with prey drive. She has a genetically nice grip. Her tracking is nice...she is food driven so it makes that fairly easy also. Her pedigree is loaded with nice working dogs that have done very well in the SchH field. As for what I am wanting to produce with her....first of all I am wanting to produce puppies that have stable nerves and correct conformation. I also want puppies that are able to work....be it...Schutzhund, police or search and rescue. I am more into the SchH right now though. I also wanting to keep the breeding as close to pure Czech as I can. I am also looking for a nice strong Czech male that is a KNOWN good hip producer and also produces nice strong puppies. I also like her head. It is nice an blocky...unlike some Czech dogs.
As for my DDR female. She is typical DDR . She is slow matureing. She is a little on the shy side...but is out growing it. She is loaded with prey drive. She loves to play tug. She is also very willing to please, so her obedience is coming along nicely. She also loves to track. As I said she is VERY slow maturing so I am not pushinf her right now. I have been told that most DDR dogs dont mature until they are about 2-2 1/2 so I have about 6 months or more until she will be there. Her grips on the toy are very nice. They are ALWAYS full and hard. She is very correct in conformation. I just love her dark pigment and nice big bone. She also has that typical DDR blocky head. ASsfor what I am wanting to produce. The same as I am wanting for my Czech female. I want to produce puppies that are able to do the work...be it...SchH, Police or search and rescue. Being DDR I know that they dont do as well on the SchH field as the other dogs do. I am also wanting to breed her to a 100% DDR male. As she is pure DDR. I would like to make sure that the male is a known producer of good strong working dogs and also a good hip producer.
I hope that this helps a little bit.....
