Bob-O, I agree.  Have you noticed how many folks that were regular posters have left?  Quite disheartening actually.  Glad to see you are still around offering some wisdom.

Capersacres- Welcome aboard.  Some here have a bigger bark than bite.  lol

What I was asking when I said are these pictures and pedigrees for real is that there is very little information on most of the pedigrees. Most say no information about the sire or dam. I wondered if they pedigrees are known to the owner. It seems not, but I don't know. At first I thought it was a joke. Sorry for that. Having never really seen American showlines I was quite serious asking if the pictures were for real since to me they looked liked crippled dogs walking on their hocks. I was amazed that this is what is being bred. Perhaps I could have phrased my questions better but my intent was to get information not anything else. I have since learned that this is what has been done to American showline GSDs. I did not mean to be unwelcoming to Caper's Acres, I was (and still am ) surprised. The dogs appear to be very far from the standard. I too welcome you and hope you stick around. Echo Meadows- there are many people on this board who know, and breed to, the standard. It doesn't make them sharks, it makes them responsible.

I checked out their website - I don't see a hip/elbow rating anywhere..... :-(

(not to mention titles - at either end!)

::sigh::

I think I see two listed on the OFA site.... one that they probably purchased elsewhere (it has a SchH I)

2 out of 10 dogs...

tighe-  Maybe the other 8 are just being bred for "pets"? LOL  We do have exclusive "pet quality" breeders on this site you know.    But hey, to each their own.  I stand by my beliefs and am with you on this one.

shark infested waters.....caper's acres,get ready for the "beat-down"! could it be that a breeder intrested in the traditional american lines,be able to contribute some useable tidbit of info that could help someone else in their breeding or maintaince program....i say yes. i thought the reason for this board was for people to exchange ideas on all aspects of breeding,training,maintance of our dogs(reguardless of breed,country of orgin,ect).weirdly enough,i grew up in the deep south during the fifties and sixties....(don't eat grits)i totally remember the "COLORED SIGNS" that pointed to the rest rooms,water fontains,and building entrances,totally acceptable to lynch a young black guy for "looking at a white lady".i would always "sneak" a sip of water from the "white fountain" to see if it was any different,thrust me...it wasn't(same supply line-go figure).i'm aquainted with many old breeders of the established "american lines"i can always go to them for an "old-school remedy" for this or that. my first foray into the GSD breed was (like many) the AMERICAN BLOODLINE..great dog...suited me just fine for that particular time in my life...and many of the technics(training/maintaince) that i learned from that dog,i still use today....also,i've personally seen dogs that were 1/8 to 1/4 american ,3/4 to 7/8 german working that were very good working dogs(and i mean good). info is at hand for anyone to use (or misuse)..i see nothing wrong with posting ped info on any dog...thrust me...the dogs could care less!

To be honest I don't know how I was hooked up to PDB.  I did not register or enter any of our dogs on this site.  I happen to be pulling up our site when I saw your site with our name on it.  We are still working on our web-site but , wanted to remove mom's old one since it was way outdated. We wanted to keep our place on the web and our registered name.  The only dog I found on your site was Victor.  He is retired now.  He is 10 yrs old.  The ones we are working with now are all new young stock.  Nicky will be getting his x-ray for OFA now that we have brought him home from our handler. He spent the summer with her since we had a family emergency and were unable to get him to the shows and Leslie was good enough to take him on. He is a grandson of Honky Tonk Man and is from the Darby-Dan lines.  We are also very hopeful of our Rose.  She is Nicky's sister from the following litter.  We are grateful for the input from some very sucessful breeders that have brought some german into the american lines to give them stronger hips and better bone.  We are very much for that.  We do enjoy the show ring and as you know the german working dog does not go into the conformation ring.  But AM/ German lines are getting very comon in the conformation ring.  Given a chance I hope we can share some valuable information with each other as we continue to grow.

Thank You for your comments.  Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Nice post, Capers Acres. I've known Dan for over 30 years, my first GSD was bred by him when he was here in PA (Sly x Orie). Jim is a favorite of mine. I've seen a few AKC champions out of him and particularly liked one bred by Karin Wagner, Diamond Jim.

The dog world isn't as big as we may think and I always try to observe the GSD judging at the AKC shows I attend and find it is an never-ending learning process. I was very, very fond of Dallas. I prefer the imported GSD's, but never close my eyes to looking at the Am lines and have found that I can appreciate some of them as well.  Manhatten, Uzi, and Mistique were  favorites of mine back in the  old days .

Good luck with your breeding to the import.
