I just googled the subspecies of wolves, and found out there actually IS an Italian wolf. So, that was the wolf my friend's B-I-L trained for SAR. The species is protected, and he needed a special permit from the government to keep it, and was not allowed to breed it. It lived to be 15 years old.

Before we acquired our first GSD 5 years ago - we were looking at Airedale Terriers.  I love the terrier personality.  I just can't imagine owning anything other that a GSD now though

I have chihuahuas as my "useless" dogs - really like them for what they are supposed to be for - sitting on my lap and being great travel companions.  Replacement breed for working - I really like Border Collies, and I could see myself working a Pit Bull in Schutzhund - they look like great fun and I've always enjoyed watching them.

oooh oooh oooh I just remembered what I want if I can't have GSD's - a couple of Feinting Goats and some guinea pigs.

Hmmm, I didn't realize there was anything but the GSD : - {  Buttt, if I had to pick another, I think that I would probably get a Border Collie.  I love the agility part of obedience, and they are very smart dogs.  Learn very fast.

European working-bred Boxer, Great Dane, English nanny dog---Staffordshire bull terrier....it's hard to make a choice.  There are a lot of super dogs out there in the world.
