Hi John
I didnt notice your representatives being excluded from voting or talking on the subject while I was there, and I did stay for the whole meeting..
Regards
Sue
PS and my original message on this subject was left because a previous poster to you had  stated that the KC HAD changed the Breed Standard without asking the Breed Clubs and I just wanted to know if this was indeed correct and if so what the H*** was the point of us all trailing down to the meeting on the 24th Jan?

That`s excellent then Sue, because that means the Breed Council, BAGSD`s and the League have all voted for action against the proposals, I was not aware that BAGSD could vote at a Breed Council meeting and my  own votes given when attending meetings were only in the absence of the GSD of WALES and DEVON GSD with their full permission. Excellent news. JW

Hi John,
Well they did on this occasion and rightly so, the reason for this was because although the meeting was called by the BC it was a meeting called ONLY to discuss and vote on the proposed changes to the Standard and for that reason ALL Clubs needed to have their say and vote regardless of whether they were a BC Member or not.

On behalf of Andrew Winfrow WUSV co-ordinator for BAGSD I would like to inform our members who read the PDB that BAGSD did not vote at the Breed Council meeting held last week.

Kennel Club Meeting, BAGSD did attend this meeting and formed part of the Partnership with the LEAGUE and the BREED COUNCIL that attended the KC and the proposals put forward from this meeting have already been made public .

We are of the understanding that the Kennel Club stand on the proposed changes of our standard are for an interim period awaiting proposals from our breed clubs. This meeting has now taken place, last weekend.

The reason Andrew was seen to vote at the BC meeting was because he represents Sheffield GSD and is their Chairman. Once again for those who have contacted me and asked how BAGSD stand with regards to the new proposed Breed Standard I will ask for this to be put on the next EC agenda at our next meeting.

I would hope the fact that BAGSD is a member of WUSV on behalf of the UK, will strongly influence their EC's debate and their decisions in respect of the Kennel Clubs changes in the GSD Breed Standard. The SV will surely be interested to know the positions of both UK WUSV member clubs on this issue. Hopefully PRIOR to the next scheduled meeting of the "GSD Partnership with the Kennel Club towards the end of February. Not forgetting their members interest either.

Hi John.

I quite understand your reticence in making a comment on this debate in your "" OFFICIAL CAPACITY "" as a BAGSD. EC member, what i cant understand is your reluctance to air your views as a Breed Surveyor, as i'm sure that those animals that you have surveyed to date, all conform to the WUSV standard, i also would guess that you have yet to survey an "" ALSATIAN "" this must surely mean that you agree with the basic principals of this thread.

Hello Paul My personal views are that our breed should be split and we should have the “German Shepherd Dog” and the “Alsatian” as a breed surveyor you are quite right I survey the dogs to the WUSV standard. I have never had to Survey a dog that in my opinion resides in the other camp namely the “Alsatian”. From all the surveys in excess of 800 to date I am not sure many of the “Alsatian” type have ever been presented. The reason for wanting to promote the international type of GSD is my belief that this is the type of dog we should be aiming to breed and over the years I have given my time and knowledge to anyone wanting to own and enjoy the breed not only as a show dog but also as a family pet. People should understand that if you believe the type of GSD you have is the correct type you will not change their beliefs, this is like asking you to change from the dogs you have bred to the “Alsatian “type, it would never happen. Wars around the world are mainly based on one belief or another so how anyone thinks we can convert the “Alsatian” fraction to the internationally recognised GSD I do not know. I do think we should stay with the UK Kennel Club but we should tell them everything we require to promote the GSD here in the UK along the same lines as the presentation from the  “partnership “group. BAGSD, the LEAGUE and the BREED COUNCIL. Once we have established our own identity with the type of GSD we want within the UK Kennel Club we should be able to move forward . John Ward

I think your feelings made known on this board John are of vital importance, and thank you very much for putting it so succintly.   Paulie, to ask Johns opinion as a breed surveyor as opposed to his other "hat" was excellent, thanks all for keeping this ongoing porogress - and it now is progress I can assure you - going.     Mo
