I found this very interesting the comments on this thread.
Mo, this split will never happen.
It is common sense that we should split the breed.
It is common sense that we do NOT have a 2 tier system with the Kennel Club, unless every shepherd has the basic health screen, knowone should have a KC pedigree.
It is common sense that the Breed clubs should have a Championship show once a month.
BUT, none of this is happening, so my advice Mo is to have your meeting and attack the 3 major committee's, which are The Breed Council, The GSD League and BAGS, which The League I am on and I am very willing to push with you as these are the only ones the Kennel Club will listen too. And finally Mo if this is not done very soon, showing of the GSD will just be for the very few.
Write to the Breed clubs and see how they feel about this and if they are willing to back you, and get League members to write letters to the League about how they feel, and for BAGS, you have got to write directly to them as I don't feel their members would be interested because most of them are obedience, (nothing wrong in that).
Good Luck, Mo, Believe me I have been trying and been trying on my own and of course no response.
Regards
Philip Prince

I foregot to Add, to David Payne, now is the time for you, to get on one of these 3 committee's, though I don't agree with everything you say, alot of things I do, although there is a lot of people sometimes find you offensive, you have the Power to make people respond and listen.

alsatian breeders/exhibitors want a split gsd breeders/exhibitors want a split surely now is the time for both parties to get together aproach the KC with mandates from all member clubs to split the breed to all those who still advocate that it is one breed yes it was 50 years ago it is not now and will never be one breed again .

Just a thought, what happens if a split were to occur, with most of the UK 'Joe Public' still only thinking of Alsatians as being 'correct', as they don't recognise or understand what German Shepherds are - bear it in mind, we do all still get asked ' what's the difference?'
Would there be a chance that 'Joe Public' would go on to buy Alsatians as it's what they know from way back when? The Alsatianists would be unlikely to tell them otherwise and this could possibly make the situation worse than ever!
Also what happens to those who now have 'Alsatian-type' German Shepherds who wish to introduce 'our type' (show OR working line) shepherds, to improve what they have? This would be impossible if the breed splits, leading to yet more problems as they would have such a very small gene pool to draw from - unless of course, they introduced more Shepherds from the U.S.A. , but they couldn't even do that, as they would be a another breed also!!!!!!!?????

Well - I only went to be and haad a kip, and everyone had an arguement - come on - Linedancer - where did I print that I !disliked your dogs so much" - I prefer the other type, thats yours and my choice, and i am going to push for us both if you will let me. Email me, and lets get to know each other you may even find I am a normal person, trying to help both camps, I have written Alsatian over the years sooo many times, I havent got a clue why I typed it wrongly.... do you want an apology, or are there more important things for us to steam ahead with
Ros, I hear allour concerns..... another person has privately emailed me and spoken of the same concern... re Joe public
As for people who want to swap to the other type, then they must buy into it if we seperate, same as I wanted a little Springer Spaniel to ruin my equilibrium (big word Line-dancer) and I had to go buy one. I am definately of one solid opinion, that by using some of each type, we dont get a correct type. I would be hoping that WHEN this person is chosen from both camps.... they would then make it their task, WHEN we are successful at the Kennel Club to take away all exaggerations from both sides..... by promoting the best of each..... and an acceptable dog to the K.C. - the public, and even to each other. We all know what we dont agree with and like on each others type, and some of it is correct in both sides...... Thanks Philip for your comments. I am going to con centrate on individuals in the first instance, because the large clubs will need to be brought on board for sure, but theer are very important breeders and exhibitors out here who dont belong to those clubs - they too must count.
Glad you saw what I am trying to achieve .pacosbear - lets press on, I have had squillions of support, and look forward to hearing from you Linedancer - if not, I`ll mail you, I dont go away, there is a bit of Jack Russell in my background.. WE WILL BE FRIENDS - we will achieve our aims ! ! ! Mo

i really do think that people are missing the point here it is the KC who have split this breed by keeping the name alsatian on our breed standard and in registration of our breed the easy way to correct it is to give it its proper name the german shepherd dog known the world over as this and adopt the sv/wusv standard 100% then their would be no alsatians its quite simple really so come on KC get your act together but then again i supose the rest of the gsd world is wrong

Penny writes;
"I could be a dumb blonde dreaming about helping to quell the bad feeling and enjoy our breed(s) again"

ha ha - its ok for you though Kerry - I`m a dumb "grey" really - or should I say Sable !!! - wow thats another thread lets not go there. M o
Jaymesie - the two types are chalk and cheese, but you have to remember, if some-one asked you to give up your type and revert to the other type, you would never in a million years go for it, and so we need to co-operate with each other - together to find an answer.
I dont think the KC have split the breed, although I agree its daft to have the two names - but if we are not careful here they will choose a name for us, and I assure you it wont be German Shepherd - so I`m for two breeds - two standards - two Breed Councils, and less hassle on show days, as we wont supposed to be like each other to the outside exhibitors in other breeds. I have been to both types of shows, and seen other exhibitors voicing what is right and what is wrong, and they have had totally differing breeds - what they are saying is what their eye likes to see - thats where we all come from, what our eye likes to see - so lets open em, and have the type that we like, the type that others like, and give us both room for a breed of our liking. Mo.
