Well I guess it depends if you are TEACHING with the e-collar or CORRECTING once the dog already knows what to do and is actively disobeying. Why teach a simple behavior with electricity when another way would suffice (and I'm not talking pinch collar corrections either.)

Nothing wrong with Mr Edison or pinch collars when used correctly. Excelent tools. The original poster was asking about e collars in relation to barking dogs - are you talking about those no bark collars which correct every time the dog barks? Many use low level stimulation to build drive, so in that case I think the no bark collars would be the incorrect tool.

Ed Frawley has some good advise for both the pinch and electric collars on the Leerburg site. And, I think I heard keg volunteering for that particular experiment LOL
