ok, I am open to the raw food, but what about salmonella and all the other issues with the raw? Before I do this, Is there anyone out there that has done the RAW and had a problem on it and has gone back to commerical?

Maxin, http://www.wtop.com/?nid=116&sid=1102390 If you read the whole article, the FDA is currently working on making sure none of this has "leaked" into hunman food.

The FDA was working to rule out the possibility that the contaminated wheat gluten could have made it into any human food, but was not aware of any risk to people. http://www.wtop.com/?sid=1090869&nid=104

I have been doing it for 3 years w/o problem. I get stewing chicken from the Hutterites and use game meat from the local butcher during hunting season and have a freezer I full. Also sometimes I buy hamburger for "variety" to the meat part. I do feed some Canidae to my older dog, she likes dog food and it has more fiber to it so she seems to pass stool easier... she has fistulas. So far (knock on wood) no salmonella or ecoli type problems for us. I just think about the problems going on with the dog foods right now and I think "which is the worse of the 2 evils"? I go with real food....

1doggie2, The food is frozen and then defrosted and fed fresh..it is not left to turn rotten or rancid. I will use freezer burned meat. I am very careful about cleanup.. counters, bowls and utensils, etc.... wash my hands about a zillion times a day..... We do have to remember their stomachs are different than ours... they are omnivores, basically scavengers.. feeding opportunistically when left to their own devices.. And most of all remember, if given the chance.. they will eat poop!! So, I figure what I'm doing is a helluva lot better than that!! The companies I distribute for use human grade ingredients.. one is a subsidiary of a human food company..... I think most of all it's important to use common sense .. It is normal to be uncomfortable with it for a bit.. after all, we have been told by seemingly knowledgeable people for many many years what is right for our pets and myabe this is pretty far from that....

I feed BARF/RAW with herbs/seeds for 15 years and no problems. Except for a young stray dog that was to anxious to eat he ALMOST choked to death. (My fault, I should have known better that to just give him a bowl full) I've never been to the vets for health problems, relating to the GI organs or blood. Although my parents did on commercial before my step out of the house and had my own choices. :o) The only home-aid supplement maintenance I use is dried whey, brewers dried yeast and garlic for the control of fleas/ticks and misqete's. Chopped scallions or wild garlic in the pastures are great in the peak months for these pests. Total control. The only commercial supplement I use is Nu-Image an Equine product I use on my show/racehorses daily. The dog coats look glassy to perfection. I could go on and on about what I feed and meals.. I best keep it short. To each his own.
