Reliya if it only that price I would go for it, that is the ONLY way you can be 100% sure about the genetic of your dogs... but I seriously doubt it is only that kind of money :S

I was wrong. It's $58 for one locus and $20 for every locus after that for the same sample.

I haven't done any testing like this, so I don't have any recommendations. I'm just commenting information from a quick Google search.

If you post the link to the pedigree, and all those dogs are correct, it's not that difficult to figure out what the recessive the dog carries is.

Thank you to AnaSilva and Reliya for your answers and link to a helpful website. I know colors aren't the most important thing to consider when breeding dogs. I know temperament is way more important, but it is fun to guess at what possible color combinations you get when breeding dogs. What color dogs would you breed to get a true bi-color German Shepherd?

I get bicolors...not that big of a deal ;)

Avasha vom Eisenherz...bicolor, parents are bi and sable w/black recessive.

Hank vom Eisenherz...bicolor, parents are black and sable carrying b&t

Jaina vom Eisenherz...bicolor, parents sable carrying b&t and bicolor. 

Ehren vom Eisenherz...not bicolor, but b&t, parents sable carrying black and black and red

 

Thank you for listing some of your dogs and how they turned out. You have beautiful dogs!

Sure color is not the most important thing on the breeding world, except I believe to avoid the off-colors, or to improve the breed, for example trying to eradicate the ticking on red and white irish setters, but then you go into patterns and are no longer talking about color, or avoid the blue, liver, etc in breed that should not have those colors...

But to me, I do think it's a lot of fun to try to really understand how it all works :)
