The more GSD people I talk to, the more I am thinking that there may already be some better options to establishing yet another FB account. I like the sound of the one Vonissk has talked about and I have just started to pay attention to another that appears to be less confrontational where rude members are not welcome. I think I'm going to give both of them a try before taking this any farther.

In my opinion, nothing is private anymore and there is no safe place on any social network level that is hack proof. NO PLACE!!! Seems there will always be someone with super knowledge to figure anything and everything out, and can get away with it. One place is a bad as the next.
Also it was just on the news that FB is in the process of making changes so that a person does not have to use his real name as their account profile. However seems some people have long ago found a way to to do that.
Blitzen although you have a good idea, there are MANY groups like that on FB already. There is no fool proof way to keep the trolls out. There will always be a friend of a friend of a friend that is friends with someone in the private group that will manage to mess things up in the group. Good luck if you do created another one.

First of all, you don't have to use your real name on FB anyway--I know folks on there that I know in person who don't.
And some of the groups I belong to it doesn't matter who you friend and invite they are still checked out. For the dog groups, if there is no doggy stuff on your page etc they WILL NOT accept you. Also on the native groups, no natives on your page forget it. And I like that cause it cuts way down on the drama and the people that are accepted seem to have a lot of fun and get along better.
There was a person on the DB (here) that was full of drama and bad breeding practices. I notice she showed up on one of my groups and started it all over again there and guess what folks she isn't there anymore. No I didn't say anything I just shook my head and wondered how long she would last. One day was all it took............

I belong to a GSD group on FB also. Mostly for pet people at first, but more & more training & competition questions are asked these days. Lots of questions about illness, feeding, etc.; several folks from PDB already there.
I go there to look at pictures, & here for content. jackie harris

Actually, I was just looking at Petra's pedigree and noting how dominant the phenotype of her maternal line is--Olivia's get are pretty consistant regardless of the sire, and it appears to come up through her dam and granddam. Not a bad characteristic to have in a bloodline...so I don't see much to dispute that she's the best dog ever.
But I'm of the mind that FB is evil, and along with crap like Instagram & Twitter, is slowly sucking out souls out through our fingertips...so it's not likely I'd go that route. The old 'green board' gave way to a FB group, and I drop by once in an while to see what's new, but I just don't find FB to be conducive to good conversation the way message boards/forums are.
