9 times out of 10, handling an atopic dog will come down to skin testing or a trial of atopical. It's rarely food. I would have made the same choice you did at this stage of the game.  Have you surfed the net to see if you can buy it for less money? I forget who manufactures Atopica, but contacting the manufacturer can sometimes get a better price. I know of one GSD owner who was able to negotiate a lower price from the manufacturer for a dog that needed to take Atopica all the time.

I'm really happy for you and your dog that it's working.  I never got the chance to try it on my atopic dog as an allergy treatment since he ended up with lymphosarcoma and we opted for chemo. I  had to stop the allergy shots then, they were finally starting to help him after a year. One of the drugs used in his treatment was cyclosporine. After his first treatment, he never scratched again.

Thanks Blitzen for the suggestion.  Yes, I'll be shopping around for the best price and contacting Novartis can't hurt.  All they can say is no.
