Preston, as usual good input. Several months ago a poster suddenly appeared and began to harrass me here. I just ignored it for a while and then he went too far. Unwise on his part, he had included his e-mail address (yes could have been anyone's or no one's) so I sent him an e-mail and asked him to apologize to me as well as everyone else he insulted that night.
He returned a threatening e-mail to me, and while I should not have done so, I replied. He sent me a second e-mail and threatened to kill me in a most painful way (his words). Unfortunately for him, his address and telephone number were indicated on the first e-mail, but he deleted them from the second e-mail. I saved all of the e-mails, and used the Adobe software that I own to save the posts from this website as well as the e-mails.
I contacted the State of Wisconsin's Department of Justice and was told that I needed to file charges in Tennessee-to where had just moved. I contacted Oli, who was more than happy to furnish me with the IP logs from that evening if I needed them, and deleted the access this poster had. I contacted the sheriff, who was most interested and took the case very seriously. His deputy completed a crime report complete with copies of the e-mails and the posts.
Needless to say, this individual had very negative press about him posted on the ripoff report website, and Preston, I think it is a different individual than the one you mention. I say it like this-regardless of what happens to this person in the State of Wisconsin, he is facing further charges in Tennessee. Sometimes you just need to tempt these creeps to bring them from under the rocks so they can be discovered. And as usual, this one was not very bright.

Good for you, Bob-O. Anyone who thinks they are anonymous when hiding behind an email address, had better think again.

Bob-0, excellent post. You dealt with this threat against you head on and I have been told that this is always the best way in the long run. Most of these folks just can't control themselves when confronted in any way. Please e-mail me privately the call name this individual used on this web site. Thanks and best regards. I always appreciate your knowledgeable posts.

Kalibeck, you make a very good point. That is why this forum should be set up where folks need to register with the site manager only and be able to keep their e-mail and true identity anonymous unless they threaten or abuse, in such case where the site manager will release their identity to the abused or to law enforcement.

Wow Bob-O I can't believe someone took that threats that far. With you especially considering how well you post your opinions and knowledge. You are excellent at putting things in a very nice manner.
People are so strange. I can't believe someone would get a kick out of harassing and threatening people, it goes to show how "out there" some folks are.
Great posts everyone, I hope no one has to experience such severe harassment again on here. Then again that is probably somewhat unreasonable considering what I read everyday!!!

Interesting input...
Pretty scarey stuff Bob-O.
I have never had any threatening phone calls (yet) but once in awhile someone will call or write me privately. I don't have time to spend all day online, so sometimes they only way to get ahold of me is via my cell phone.
Sure hope I never piss anyne off to the point they decide to look me up and show up here with ill intent.
Could be a short career for the interloper.
Our neighbors here in this little hollow could bring a whole new meaning to the words "Neighborhood Watch." LOL
Home invaders would very likely to depart the premises in the morgue wagon.
Hell, they still haven't found the two "revenooers" that came up to bust the still up back during prohibition in the 30's. My slightly odd sister-in-law insists that the weird bubble-looking flaws in my digital photos of this place are their "orbs," still hanging around here at the farm where their spirits and their corporal selves parted company so long ago.
Hee hee hee

It IS a shame that people feel so free to attack or abuse someone, most of the time undeservedly, behind the wall of annonimity. It is common all over the internet. What is the real shame, in my eyes, is that there are that many people in the world that are so insecure and gutless to have to hide... add on top of that the seemingly large amount of people with pent up anger and it is only a matter of time before they explode. We all have to pay, whether being the brunt of the attack or having to read it in a post that we are otherwise interested in. I for one hope that Oli has some better plan for the new site and it's forum.

Good one, Shelley! I agree that any invasion of Fortress Bob-O would be met with at least three (3) spirited sets of fourty-two (42) teeth, and a couple of others who would come in for clean-up detail. Not to mention Bob-O with his shoot first-ask later mentality. Those darned revenooers-they just don't seem to get it, do they? In my opinion, they interfere with free enterprise-ahem, I should say tax-free enterprise!
Seriously, I will put up with quite a bit of BS, but I take any threat toward me or mine very seriously, and I am a bit too old these days for the old "rough and tumble." I just don't "fall" as well as I used to! It never ceases to amaze me how some still think they can harrass and attempt to intimidate people and do so with absolute anonymity and safety. Preston is correct about the relatively new cyberstalking laws, hence there is not much public knowledge of these.
It would have been very different if the offender was in my new state of residence, but since it occurred across state lines the federal rules were the ones that applied. People who post libelous or harrassing comments should be aware that these are felonious actions if they are caught and charged, and actions for that the evidence can be found and presented.
Oh well, I don't see much smoke coming from that stack sticking through my outbuilding, so I need to go and check the fuel supply of my (ahem) methanol-manufacturing equipment. Bob-O's Fine German Shepherds and Alternative Fuels Manufacturing-the only fuel-supply depot where one can see a few nice German Shepherd dogs and buy methanol one (1) quart at a time!
Whoops, that's a plug!

Bob-O, my understanding is that certain law enforcement agencies do not want much publicity about the new federal regulations about interstate cyberharassment or the new interstate agreements which were negotiatated to resolve jurisdictional issues. The reason is that they want the perpetrators to "show themselves" so they can be easily identified as potential suspects in certain other serious crimes that are linked to these behaviors in some cases. Plus, the ability for clean and hard hitting prosecutions increases dramatically if perps remain ignorant of the legals risks present for their criminal acts and feel unrestrained in their deviant behaviors. Street smart perps can be harder to identify and prosecute, and often pull back activities in areas where they know their is a 100% xcertainty of being caughtand prosecuted. Your way of dealing with these cyberthreats head on is certainly the best way to deal with these.
