Hi P K,
I find this black and tan pup has very good proportions, good bone and type.
Very good head and expression, high withers , a level back with a short and steep croup.
Good front angulations with a good lay of shoulder and very good hind angulations.
Good straight fronts, but the pasterns need to firm up .
The 2 areas of concern at the moment are the croup and the pasterns,
which hopefully will improve with age.
something tells me that this pup has a great attitude, enjoy working with him.
He is a lovely dog.
If you should show him , try stacking him with his right hind futher back, like a dobermann's stack.
I find it helps improve the lay of the croup.
When selecting puppies at 8 weeks , I do my home work first.
a) what bloodlines are the parents from?
b) Has the Dam produced quality puppies?
c)Has the dam herself got very good , correct structure?
d)Does the sire's structure and producing abilities compliment the dam's.?
Now when I look at the litters, I first look for
a) Good strong temperamant and confidence.Test for reaction to loud noise.Play fetch.
b) Look for a good head( male),check the bite and make sure there are 2 testicles decended.(don't listen to stories or guarantees on this )
c) Look for type, good propotions, high withers (dip between the shoulder blades)
a good lay of croup, good lay of shoulder and very important the lay of the upper arm( shoulder and upper arm should be roughly of equal length)
and hind angulations should be correct.
d)Movement : the puppy should enjoy running, jumping and playing , without any visible limp.
the pup should show good reach and drive in it's movements.
Be warned, a pup that comes from top producing bloodlines and parentage, with all the qualities
will cost, but be worth every cent.
One has to read and understand the GSD Standard.
For a clearer picture pl. go to the GSDC of Aust. web site and look for Mr. Louis Donald's articles as well as others.
