yellowrose of Texas

I really was expecting him to launch out the window like my boys do or did..I do not train anymore but Mine were trained to do that ,..THEIR mentor was Cameron's Gator who is an Orthos V Tiekerhook boy and he always exited my window when I kept him when his handler , GAL Co Dep. went on vacation..I would take him to Lake Tyler and watch him alert on cars parked in the lake side ...Very impressive...I kept on walking and would laugh at him doing his duty OFF DUTY.. no one knew what or who he was but Whitehouse PD did...
One day his son Austin, ran into the garage and before I could say NINE   he jumped into my truck thru the window on drivers side.,Of course I had a harse correction for that...but he saw Gator his dad do it so I guess lIke Father like son or vice versa,,

Do not  try that kind of training..I worked with LEO's and we trained three of mine to do lots of things most people do not...I did building searchs, lots of agitations from my vehicle since I traveled all over USA with my dogs in tow or in truck for my protection and for my second job I undertook.

Training is so much fun but hard work but the end result lives in your memory..
Good Luck

"..I never take a dog uncrated anywhere,,THE police cannot get to you if you have a dog.."

that leads to an interesting side discussion ie; and the dog can not get to the bad guy should you need him to if he is in a crate.

a dilemma?

...YR,  the windows were 1/2 up, if the decoy approached that side of the vehicle the dog would have launched no prob, dog was still very much a pup at that time as well.

That is good , 4gsd    right way to go with him...In the USA our traffic is wild and wooly..no dog needs to be loose in vehicle...in fact in some towns you are ticketed and if you take a Defensive Driving course , the first thing we are taught is   any object loose in a vehicle becomes a Bullet upon impact . Any object loose can hit you in head from behind and knock you out of go thru the windshield...Police vehicles have wire cages on windows and behind drive to prevent that..

If you have a dog with you for protection. You can have a quick release coupler in vehicle to minimize that and at your need would be just as quick as pulling a weapon,,

I always have a leash, called a handle, or quick release on any dog in the vehicle as you need complete control of your dog no matter how well trained..A police man has a triggered device with him if he needs his dog and he can open and release his dog at any time but he and dog are trained companions for this kind of maneuvered action something we do not need,   The gsd has a special bond with a LEO , and is expected to be ready for or without a command in some cases..We do not train that way as we just have a gsd for our warding off of criminals or someone who would do harm  > THe site of one of our dogs with mouth wide open is enough to  have them leave your vehicle and you alone..

Most people would not approach a vehicle with a trained gsd in it ,if it  alerts..gives you time to get dog loose .if needed.THE object is to dial 911 for legal help

Yr as a not so funny aside many of our children dial 911 in an emergency and wonder why the line is dead. our national number is 000, shows the influence and power of television or what. ok just a useless factoid..

4gsd: I loved your dogs facial expression as he saw the decoy coming from afar/ His eyes and his nose began to work..I saw his look change as the decoy got nearer...Very good..

Keep up the good work and keep watching and learning your dog. HE will tell you lots if you learn his reaction times. Your trainer , hopefully can explain that one...lol

Thanx Yr i really am tryin my best to do right by my boy. i think i am more interested now in de-tuning his aggression, not like he needs a lot of encouragement to bang on with well anyone really.

sus not so weird, i think us adults have created something that makes it hard for many kids to distinguish between the real and virtual world, scarey but not so weird imo.

Good decision. The dog wants to work and shows he can work. The dog just needs to learn the rules. He needs to be what is called clear in the head. Not out of his mind and allowed to go ballistic and non-thinking. Practicing OB under distraction is great for this.
