What are you one Jenni78... where did I imply the UK is sooooo much bigger than the USA? A country as small as the UK cannot handle huge increases of contagious diseases such as CPV because dogs aren't vaccinated like it is now.

Ermmm I am not misunderstanding anything either. I fully understand how the system works. I think you ought to read the vaccine recommendations by WSAVA for guidelines to vaccinations backed up by DEFRA.

I would still like to know why you think the British protocol and guidelines for vaccinations is archaic? These guidelines are advocated and followed by 99.9% of British Vets. I am sure they'd all be delighted to hear your view why here in the UK we are using an a vaccination protocol which in your opinion is obsolescent?  Gosh do you think that's why we have a 37% increase in dogs with Parvo?  Do you think that's why we have practically wiped out cases of Distemper here in the UK and don't have Rabies?

PS. The title of this thread is 'What is your vaccination protocol?'  Not 'lets discuss vaccines and titres.' I gave the protocol advocated in the UK. You haven't given yours, just nit picked and I am soooo glad to know you aren't trying to belittle me! That makes me feel sooo good knowing that, all warm and fuzzy inside!

<sigh> You don't "get" what I'm saying and now you're getting angry because of it.  I was JOKING about the size of the UK!!!  You're missing the point and misunderstand how viruses like parvo are and are not spread, and what vaccines can and cannot do, and I sincerely don't know what else to say to help that. You're blaming titers and relying on vaccines for things that neither are doing. Vaccinated, unvaccinated, high titer, low titer...makes not a bit of difference in "carrying" parvo. You don't "carry" parvo; it's a virus the produces strong immunity when exposed and recovered from.  It's not something like hemophilia or brucellosis that a dog "carries." ANYTHING can "carry" parvo, as in physically carry it from place to place- dogs, shoes, birds, cats, your clothing, etc. People titering instead of blindly vaccinating ARE NOT causing "parvo carriers."  And actually, YOU started the discussion on it when you blamed the folks who titer for something that just isn't so. I didn't just jump on this out of nowhere. Sorry I made you so defensive.

Technically, wouldn't it be that people titering for parvo are less likely to contribute to the spread because they actually KNOW the level of immunity?  When vaccinating the animal, you can only make assumptions (I'm saying this as someone who vaccinates, not titers).

Yes, probably. There are dog who are vaccinated yearly who never develop acceptable titers. Now, that starts the whole debate about whether a low titer actually means low immunity, but let's not go there just yet...lol.

Dodd's studies have shown that distemper and parvo shots likely provide lifetime immunity anyway, or very close, in most cases, so saying someone running titers is putting others at risk is backwards; those are the people who KNOW the status of their dog's immunity, or as close as we humans can come to gauging that.

Not that many people titre test in the UK. Unless a vet uses Vaccicheck in-house, the cost to send bloods away is far more expensive than the 5-1 full vaccine or booster. The article Jenni referred to is 10 years old and figures now are of no consequence in comparison to the current CVP outbreak in the UK.

To Jenni *Sigh* I have no idea what you are saying because linking a 10 year old 'archaic' article to me is of no consequence or even comparable. Do you really think I don't know of the many ways how Parvo can be carried? I didn't blame titres for the spread of it Roll eyes  I probably know of more ways of how it can be spread than you do...  Why are you still avoiding to give an explanation why YOU find the British protocol of vaccinations archaic or were you just saying it to appear knowledgeable?

I know now why I don't post in this forum too often... it's because there's always one that takes it off topic, refuses to explain the reason for their views. I wonder if they ever stop and think what they actually post?  I very much doubt it. G'night.

Yes, you're right. I'm well known for my thoughtless, off-topic, ignorant, nonsensical posts, which I post just to make people mad and so I appear knowledgeable. You're right.  I just can't help myself. Thinking

In all seriousness, though, you missed my point for the article. The date is immaterial. I was simply showing ONE easy to find article on titers in the UK, as evidence that if one wants to educate one's self, it's easy. Additionally, I don't think the science behind titers is totally invalid from a study that was done ten years ago. If we had to redo every study every ten years, we'd really be hard-pressed to make medical advances.

This is your statement, Spooks: "The only thing I have against titres are that by not vaccinating your dog, it can be a carrier of Parvo and pass the disease on to unvaccinated dogs."

It's incorrect. I objected to it and you got angry, then angrier when I tried to explain why I object.

Whatever...

Shame you have never got round to explaining why YOU think the UK protocol is archaic.
