The best quote I have tried to live my life by for many years has always been:

“I don't want to get to the end of my life and find that I have just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.”
― Diane Ackerman

To me every scar on my body and  wrinkles though still few  were earned..... I never was a prissy girl, rather I was the typical girl next door tomboy :)  I am proud of who I am at this stage in my life. I have given back to others, My sons are well raised and I have a good husband and if I were a terrible person I would not have acomplished to have such fantastic family around me. I am so very proud of them, because they are human, they have empathy, they have honor and they believe in honesty, none of them drink more than casual once a month or so, none of them smoke, they do not do drugs, they are all healthy, they all give back to the community, they have manners, they are intelligent and have ambition and strive for good careers, they are good with taking care of women and being kind with children and volunteering to help the less fortunate. They ecourage and support me in return for all I have done raising them in anything I want to do in the future. They were supportive of my volunteer work and when I worked jobs by helping out and understanding when I was called out for a search during something important to thembecause they themselves would also try to help others in need. I can say no matter how much longer I am granted life, that I am happy with my accomplishments and how I have conducted myself for the most part. We all do things in the heat of anger, or in defending ourselves from others and there is always two sides of a story. I am secure in who I am and do not need to prove it to anyone. I do not feel insecurity of growing old and looking it. I find simple joy in life be it hanging out with my sons, or growing fresh produce to feed people and cooking for them. I have seen things in life and have helped life continue for others and I take it seriously. To be alive is the best gift and so how I look doing it is not important to me. For some who have picked at my appearance, they are vain and so my appearance bothers them... not my problem. I am still living life to the fullest just at a hobbling pace lol I may be slow in things like schutzhund... but I am doing it myself and I am damned proud of still trying at things no matter my age or disability. I respect people who try to do whatever they want to occupy themselves with, even if they have a hard time doing it or cannot succeed. I will never regret what I did that gave me scars, and I am sure others are happy I earned them.  I think you cannot blame unhappiness in life on anyone but yourself. If you are unhappy with yourself don't invent things to hold yourself up or put down others that are trying to live life, go out and change it. If you are unhappy with the people around you, change it or if they are unhappy with you then tell them to find what is making them cranky and tell them to fix it. Women need to not live for their families only. I think that creates bitterness when one day everyone is off doing their thing and if they did not replace the time they spent taking care of others with something for themselves they get lost. Women are told if they don't look like this or behave like that, something is wrong with them... it is something wrong with the people who try to mold you into their ideas, not you. Never too late in life to do whatever it is you dream of doing and not becoming an angry bitter person attacking people doing what you wished to do when you could, so that they write shit like the above and lump all older women into the cranky biddy bunch. Dont be a victim to anyone. Dont let anyone knock you down, even people who are very very good at doing it and managing to look pristine because they know how to play the games without looking like they have been in the mud.... I've always been splashing in the mud around the farm and guess I never learned how not to get it on me lol I will leave the mud to the animals and go about my way resisting temptaion to take another mud bath even though perhaps that is what makes me wrinkle free and young looking lol  I am off to read the ending of my book in bed. I read the whole story not just half.
