I had the pleasure of meeting Rachelle at NASS a few years back. A very lovely woman who obviously loves her dogs. Kudos to her for doing the right thing.

Even better news, Coastal posted on their FB page that one of their volunteers picked up Danno today, so he's not in the shelter any longer, either!

Hopefully they didn't cut this guys poor balls off. I there is a way to get him to florida I will take him in

by hexe on 07 September 2013 - 22:09

It's highly unlikely he's been neutered in 24 hrs, troopscott, but even if he was, it doesn't make him any less worthy of a good, loving, secure and forever home.

In troopsscout's defense I thought the same thing myself,My concern was not related to "breeding", but rather the old boy having to be put through the stress of surgery,,maybe that's what troopsscout meant..So glad he has been rescued!!...:)

No there is no point in taking a chance putting. 10+ year old dog through an unnecessary surgery. Has nothing to do with breeding him. It would be like tying an 80 year old ladies tubes. There is no reason for it and the risk far outweighs the reward. As people and dogs get older it is harder to recover from anesthesia

So, does he have a home?  If not, I will make room to give him a forever home.  I have been contacted by someone who can get him to me.

I have been working with Coastal since July 2012, them having mobilized on only a couple of hours notice to pull death row dogs right out of the kill room for me on numerous occasions. I can vouch for the fact that they are one of the best rescues in the country, ALL volunteers, so every penny donated goes straight to the welfare of the dogs.

The biggest problem (outside the high euthanasia rates) in SoCal shelters is the high incidence of a very virulent upper respiratory condition, which doesn't always even present as kennel cough, but goes straight into bacterial pneumonia. Almost every dog I got from down there (nearly two dozen in the last year) have arrived with this condition, requiring treatment, if not emergency admission to my vet's intensive care unit. We can only hope Danno hasn't picked up this highly contagious disease. At his age, it could easily prove fatal.

Please donate to help continue the good work my friends at Coastal selflessly continue to provide in saving, rehabilitating and re-homing our beloved German Shepherd Dogs. Please donate whatever you can. Thanks to all who have stepped up to help this grand old dog, tossed away like so much garbage, now facing a bright retirement in a loving home, as he should be. I can hardly wait to see his exit photos! Gary B., a true hero, usually pulls the dogs for Coastal, drives hours in SoCal traffic almost daily to save them in time. He typically gets at least one pic on his way to the rescue vehicle.

The good news is that Danno is already in his new home, with a family who already has another GSD they adopted from Coastal.  Danno and the resident dog have become friends, and it's all down to the processing of the paperwork. Danno is now safely ensconced in a REALLY forever home, and will live out the rest of his life with much love and absolute security.

So that's one happy ending.  But Coastal has got LOTS of other dogs, puppies to seniors, nice dogs, beautiful dogs and cute dogs, who need THEIR forever homes, their happy endings, too.  These other dogs probably don't have the medals and the prior show career Danno had, but they are equally as deserving--and will be equally grateful, and equally loving--of new families of their own.  If you're in California and considering adding a new dog to your household, please take a look at Coastal's website and see if that next friend is already waiting for you there.
