I, too feel for you.  My last female had terrible allergies and I wouldn't wish those issues on anyone.  I had the intra dermal skin testing done only to find out she was pretty much allergic to everything in her environment (inhalent allergies).  I did switch her to a grain free food even though it obviously wasn't a food allergy.  I gave her weekly immunotherapy injections in conjunction with antihistimines.  Truthfully, those didn't do much and the maintenance was very costly for little results.  She did get some relief from accupuncture but it certainly wasn't the miraculous result I was looking for but it was an improvement and the biting, licking and hot spots would dissipate to some degree.

Mindhunt,

I just reread your post where you said you feed Flint River Trout. Did you know that trout is considered a "Hottest of Foods" in Chinese food theory? Cod and other seafood are cooling foods, however.

Duck or Rabbit might be a better protein for you to try if you are at all interested in this philosophy.

Just out of curiosity... do you know your dog's DM-DNA status?  I am working on a theory that the mutations in the SOD1 gene tested by the DM-DNA test may be related to an overall immune system weakness that may be expressed as allergies in the GSD.

I highly recommend the Nzymes healthy skin kit for dogs that have skin issues.  As a dog groomer, I see some really nasty skin problems, most diagnosed as allergies, and I have seen the Nzymes program work wonders on these dogs.  Might be worth checking into.
