Mindhunt,
Thanks. I can do that, too. Regular Smile

So, I know you want to remain outside of "judgment", but I would be interested in hearing what you think of my own speculations on why a mother would seek to bond through artillery with a son such as Adam, based on what we have so far been allowed to know about him? And since your thinking is different, what is it then?

Or anyone else who has an opinion on the question.

Hmm good question Beetree.  I think she just wanted to bond with him while giving him a feeling of control.  I vaguely remember something about him being bullied, I may be misremembering.  By going target shooting, who knows, maybe in her mind she thought she was helping him feel less of a victim.  The fact that she took him out where other people were may have been her attempt at controlled socializing.  I don't know why she did what she did other than possibly through good intentions that were inappropriate for a child like Adam.

I do agree that Adam should have been in a resource room style class where the academic and social environment were carefully controlled.  His conditions would not allow for effective processing of environmental stimuli, I am guessing he could be overwhelmed by his environment, for instance many with his conditions have to be careful of clothing because tags, tight waist bands, or harsh materials and such could irritate.  He would not have adequate social skills nor would he have empathy to understand other people well.  I am wondering about his impulse control?  I am guessing he very easily could have been a victim of bullying and would require careful oversight so no one would be able to bully him.  I am also guessing he was intelligent and knew on some level he was different and we all know how children hate to be different, everyone wants to fit in.  This could have become a source of anger for him, again a guess.  He would have needed a clear cut and consistent reward and consequence system, behavioral, occupational, and social training/education.  I think his mother and if possible, his father along with Adam should have participated in family therapy, and individual therapy for Adam and his mother as well as a support group for his mother for parents of special needs children like Adam.  That's just off the top of my head.
