I've been going thru a similar situation. Live in the country, but has been getting crowded since last fall. All newcomers have dogs they let run around.  One being our renter. She has a Rottx. Another neighbor has a 1/2 Wolf, 1/2 GSD. The thing is, I always took Luke out, on leash, till we'd go a mile or so to the woods or a soybean field. Now, any direction we go, I have to deal with loose dogs who want to interact or fight.
Its frustrating to have to deal with irresponsible dog owners.
I did tell the renter yesterday to tie the dog up. She got spitting mad. She's a b**** anyway. But that's a whole other story.

Id probably then get the water sprayer like LadyFrost has and set it up. If that didnt work then the dogs would be going to AC. My pet peeve is dogs crapping in my yard. My own dog doesnt even get to go out front and crap. Why should I have to clean up some other dogs' poop  Cry Smile

Bhaugh, I'll just use the water hose (it has the sprayer on the end) and put it on the highest pressure it can go on. It reaches up to the fence.  Now if the dogs start jumping up and biting the water.......We'll find a different approach lol

Good luck.

We have a problem with loose dogs around here too, as well as with owners that just don't care and think they/their dogs own the world. I won't even walk my dog in our neighborhood any more (we go to the trails or lake instead). I just remember shortly after I got her, we were walking, and happened to pass a lady (on the opposite side of the road mind you) that had a yorkie. The dog was growling, barking, lunging trying to get across the street at my dog - who was completely ignoring it, and the b**** has the nerve to shout "You keep that dog over there!" I looked over and said "My dog isn't the one with a problem." and kept walking.

There is also a lady down the road who has a poodle that she lets do whatever too. Several times, I've been driving and the dog is just sitting in the middle of the road. I'll stop, and the owner will be standing in her yard, and make no motion to get the dog or call it over or anything. I've almost run it over a few times when its popped out in the middle of the night, had to slam on my brakes to avoid it. Heh, my grandma chewed its owner out once, after she almost hit the thing.

Dawulf, your post reminded me of a couple months ago, when I was taking my mali on a walk a block away from my house. Some lady with her yappy little froofy white dog was coming up the same sidewalk (going the opposite way) and her dog kept snarling and barking and going apeshit like she wanted to fight my mal. I kept my dog on the other side of me (away from hers) and she had the nerve to stop and say, "Can you go walk over there?" pointing to the road, off the sidewalk because she couldn't control her dog and apparently didn't want to walk in the road herself. Keeping in mind, I live in the city where it's busy on the streets most of the time, but I just shook my head and walked my dog around a parked car because the lady obviously was too lazy to move herself, let alone train her dog.

And of course I've also had yappy little mutts charge out of their owner's garages unleashed (in my neighborhood) and then stop 5 feet away and keep barking and interrogating my dog who acts perfectly calm and collected on her leash. And of course they always stop a short distance away, just enough so that my dog can't lunge forward on the leash and show them who's boss. The owners don't even come fetch their dog; they just stand in their garage and repeatedly shout the dog's name when it doesn't listen while I try to ignore and keep walking.

Some dog owners just make us all look bad. :(

Oh the idiots never seem to peter out do they?
The nut bag on the other side of the lake from me has a westie, who thinks it's godzilla.
Well a while back i'm walking my older bulldog, who's like 85 lbs and that westie come screeching out from the garage, across the road and she starts lunging at us. I tell Gladys to sit and yell to the kids in the yard to call their dog. The kids are teenages. Who just give me this blank stare. So i start walking towards them in an attempt to get the dog to go closer so the brain dead kids can catch it. I know it's their dog i see them playing with it and walking it some times. When it's not loose. So they lamely try to call the dog who is now getting braver and snapping at Gladys. Who is politely ignoring the little shit. Because she use to live with a yappy Chiahuha and a bichon that had seizers, she's use to crazy. Well finally i get irritated with the stupid little dog and gently "punt" it back into their yard and inform them i will not pay for any stitches if their dog attacks mine and Gladys fights back.
Since then i've had that dog go after me and several of my other dogs and even chase after me and my dog on a bike. But i have resorted to using my leather leash as a whip and smacking the crap out of that little dog from hell. One day it will get run over. It's happen so close a few times already. But they don't seem to care that their pet is in danger.

Once I was walking my old Aussi on a leash and a Boston Terrier came running out a front door and latched on to her belly. The owner of that dog came out and just stood there and watched. My old dog just stood there and was shocked that another dog would do such a thing.

I told the owner to get her dog, she just stood there so I kicked the Boston right in the head as hard as I could. Phased and a bit set aback the Boston let go for a second and latched on again. I stepped on the Boston's neck and held it down and demanded the lady get her damn dog. She of course started yelling at me and called 911, but didn't get her dog. After a few minutes under my foot the Boston relaxed and scampered off to its owner.

When the police came, she was hyper agitated and irrational screaming and yelling, I calmly explained what happened and showed the puncture wonds on my old dog. She was given a citation and her dog was put on the dangerous dog list. The officer asked why I didn't just kill the beast. I told him that its not the dog's fault it ended up with shit for an owner and we both laughed it off. I took my old dog to the vet and the owner of the Boston was forced to pay the bill. Never saw the dog after that, she either kept it controlled or got rid of it. Even in gated neighborhoods people are stupid.

Sad that things are the way they are.

Mindhunt

I feel for you.  I had a similar experience with loose dogs in my neighborhood.  I was taking my 2 out for a walk, they were on leash when 2 big intact male dogs ran up to mine and started a fight (with me in the middle, lucky no bites on me).  My dogs managed to chase the other 2 away, blood all over the driveway, looked like I slaughtered a pig, after checking mine out and finding no wounds, I call animal control.  Animal control came, took pictures of the blood and said they would try to locate the dogs.  About a week later around 11pm, I see the same dogs loose and their owner running behind them, I tried to follow them so I could find out where they lived and he dashed between a couple houses dogs in tow.  Another couple weeks pass and I am out in the front yard with my dogs at 2am so they could do their potty when down the street I see the 2 dogs with a couple more running with them (guess they needed reinforcements), they all made a beeline for my dogs and I ran in the house dragging my two behind me.  The dogs slammed up against my door clawing and barking like mad.  I called animal control only to get a message to call 911 with an emergency otherwise call them after 8am the next morning.  Half hour goes by and I open the door to peek out only to have one of the dogs try to force his way in and the clawing and barking starts up again so the hell with it, I am calling 911.  I was put on hold and never did manage to get through. I finally gave up hoping the dogs would go home.  The next morning I am stuck sanding and painting my front door (after I called animal control AGAIN) and we all took pictures.  The officer told me there was little they could do unless they are able to catch the dogs outside and could I take a video next time so they have documentation.  A few weeks later the dogs are loose again when I am taking my dogs for a walk, I drag my dogs back home and call animal control, they were unable to locate the dogs and admitted they have received a few calls about the dogs.  For about 3 months I was unable to take my dogs for a walk because of these dogs.  Neighbors have reported that their dogs were attacked in their own back yard (we have people who insist on leaving their dogs out on a chain for hours).  It's been a month and no loose dogs so far.  My area has an epidemic of loose dogs with so many foreclosures and the recent raids on a fighting ring (lots of the loose dogs were pitbull and pitbull mixes which I am sorry to say has done little to fix the image problem of a loving breed).  We have had a couple of people knocked over or their little dogs mauled by loose dogs.  Animal control is short staffed with only 2 people on for the entire county and no one on weekends or nights so I understand their situation but still, it is annoying and frightening.

Mindhunt - Animal control will come out when a child is mauled and or killed.

Try to get a local news station to make a report of it, write the times, dates and notes.......take pictures and or videos if you can.

Ask animal control if they have any live traps, put tuna or cat food in them.

I really feel for you.

Mindhunt, if dogs ran onto my property like that trying to get ANY of my animals they would get a bullet in the head. We(my neighbors and I) even have trail cams set up in our woods to see what dogs are running loose at night and if they are causing any harm, they don't make it to the next day. Can't you shoot a dangerous animal where you live on your own property?
