Wasn't offended, Moons, just wanted to be clear that I in no way meant that GSDguy08 [or anyone else] shouldn't be at liberty to discuss his choice of topic--though I'll probably offend YOU when I say that I do believe that there ARE limits to free speech in a public venue [real or virtual]. I support the right of anyone to say anything they want, no matter how vile or hateful, in the privacy of their own home, but when someone starts posting on internet message boards about, say, wanting to kidnap, kill, cook and eat people [as is the case with the cop on trial in NY] stuff like that crosses the 'free speech' threshhold, IMO.
Ruger, it's true that at the moment, there aren't as many religion-themed threads as to warrant saying there's 'a lot' of them--but at times there HAVE been a whole lot more running at one time. Again, nothing wrong with it, if that's what floats one's boat. My comments were more of an observational musing on a practice that I certainly wasn't really expecting to encounter on this site's Off-Topic forum, that's all. GSDguy08's thread reads like someone's rough draft of their senior thesis for their divinity degree, which struck me as a departure from a departure, as it were. Wonder if someone will start a thread by posting the outline for their Old English Lit essay one day?
Moons, was kidding about the ballroom dancing or the fishing.
How about the big murder trial in Arizona, though? Really kind of thought that someone might have brought that subject up, especially since it's being televised AND live-streamed on the web as well.

Start a topic about it hexe, I am not familiar with it, but I'm sure I'll find it interesting. :)

So that's why you are all so paranoid about microchips! That New World Order, looming over us all! Oh, yeah, that. I imagine all those microchips in all those dogs.... suddenly being in league with the devil!
I apologize in advance... I really should drink a full cup of coffee before I even open up the OT.
....lol,

Long live the PDB god squad; without their sage advice we would surely burn in hell..

Hexe, I agree with you actually ..
...I do not prefer to read lengthy articles, essays, or commentary ...If I wanted to do that I would simply open my own library ..I always prefer to have conversation instead. After all thats why we are all here,,,:)
**Big pet-peeve of mine is the lack of pointed and genuine discussion on the topic. Instead many post lengthy copy and paste material, videos, articles. commentary, no one wants to read all that information, at least I don't, lol,,Chances are most have already done their homework and have come to their own conclusions on the matter,,And those who have not would prefer a more personal way of communication...But thats just me..:)

Ruger it ain't just you; I had a good try at getting Shtal, for one, to recognise
exactly that, but it obviously has not changed anything, he's still doing it.

hexe,
I disagree, there can not be limits or conditions to free speech.
The only (self imposed) limits would be where one chooses to shout his words out in a public place, and each person should know these limitations or face a confrontation.
While one may be free to say what he chooses, others are free to whip his ass while he's saying what he wants.
Free speech may be protected, but the speaker is not.
A little common sense would apply.
The hate church members who show up at funerals of veterans are a good example of someone who needs your garbage all over them, maybe a rock or two to balance their load.
I support their right to speak, and everyone else's right to run them off as they speak.
Location location.
As for the eating habits of the NYPD, the internet may have saved lives.
It sure as hell is a neat trap for more than a few idiots.
I do wonder sometimes about entrapment though but hey, an idiot is an idiot.
As for our religious scholars, correct they do not discuss but instead preach, and attempt to influence through interpretation.
This is true blasphemy according to the word itself.
The whole concept of organized religion was designed for the purpose of control.
To use the words as a tool, to be manipulated by those placed on a pulpit by others just like them, for power over the masses, and to gain wealth.
Fear is used more often than not, or the reward system, 70 virgins and all that crap, a place at the feet of a god for loyal service.
Not all religions follow this format but all seek a form of control if only one's own control over one's self.
I prefer a one on one relationship with my beliefs.

I only speak if I need to or if I have reason to speak.
