Bhaugh

This morning I woke up to Candy back to square one. The Revolution seemed to work when I first applied it. That was on Friday. Now she is back to scratching like mad so I'm guessing it isn't working.

Question....can she be injected with Ivermetin after giving her the Revolution? I will do the borax bath again today as that really seemed to help. My mange friends said not to give the pred as this causes the mites to overproduce but she is so misreble. Just called the vet he is out until Tuesday Sad Smile

Candy comes from a shelter,so usually all tests reg.mites and mange are doen at the shelter.
My dog is also a shelter dog with a lot of itching.I'm in the process of changing over from a chicken.turkey to all fish,no grain, corn wheat etc.
Dogs can also have topical allergies (enviromental allergies) grass, trees you name it.
Spent the money, save aggrevation and time take her to a dermatologist.I would invest in allergy testing.
Good luck with her,she's beautiful

go to your vet and have him/her administer the shot. that way you'll be right there if she has an adverse reaction.

i don't know what the dose is so to be safe go to your vet,

mine got her shot about a 3 days after given frontline plus and also heart guard plus and it didn't seem to matter.

I should have required the shot up front. But now seeing that the Revolution isnt working much (it's been 3 days too soon?) I feel I was duped and paid 49.00 for nothing.

BARB, I believe it is 1cc per hundred lbs. I use it for worming adult dogs also.(I use the zimmectin GOLD for all my big dogs).
It treats for all worms and I use it monthly.
I would also try to find the Nu Stock ointment. It is great for any open sores from itching.
I would call the vet.I don't know about the revolution but I myself would do it.
I also don't know which you have but if it is the stuff labeled for cows, go with the 1 cc.

HI Bhaugh, I use Fauna, it is a soap, with the ivermectina, may be you already know it.   The ivermectina alone does not work.
In your case you used Revolution, I never used this product, but if you are afraid of poisoning him meanwhile you could bath him with fauna I think.

Good luck!

Thanks for the soap info. I was online yesterday trying to find something other than pred to treat the itching and it was suggested (through clinical trials ) to use clove oil diluted with either a carrier oil or I just used some drops in water. Sprayed it on Candy (I did a test area to make sure she wasnt allergic) and wow it actually works. To make sure it wasnt some fluke I sprayed the mix on some of my own bites and within say 30 sec to a minute, the redness was completely gone and the bite stopped itching. I tried a small area as well other than the patch test to see if it would even before spraying her all over and I was actually surprised. I still use the ear mite med for her ears. Dont need a yeast infection too. The Austrailian study I read stated that the clove kills the mites in 15 minutes. Not sure how accurate that is since I have no way to prove otherwise without a microscope.

She actually laid down last night at bed and didnt keep me awake scratching. YAY. It may not work for all dogs but for Candy it has. Ill be keeping an eye out for any signs of toxicity but she doesnt want to lick so thats good.

I found the insert for Revolution and it stated that it takes 30 days for the scratching to stop. Don't think Ill be recommending this product to anyone else. Live and learn I suppose. Ill look for the fana shampoo.

Barb - The information about the clove oil is really interesting; thank-you for sharing. (And I'm sorry that you and Candy are going through this.)

I looked up the study that Barb mentioned:

"At all concentrations tested (1.56%–25%), contact with clove oil resulted in 100% mortality of permethrin-sensitive mites after 0.25 hours. Permethrin-resistant mites died at the same time but required higher concentrations (≥6.25%) of clove oil ...".

Please keep us up to date on how the clove oil is working.  I have not heard of this, but I am all for anything that works that is not full of a bunch of toxic chemicals.

Thanks for the info and I hope Candy gets to feeling better soon.
