C'mon guys. If the puppy is biting continuously, this then has to to be tempered somewhat. I do not think that you should let the puppy bite the living daylights out of ANY family in the name of preserving the dogs prey drive! Its madness!! I have exactly the same female puppy which I bought 2 months ago, with great prey drive/dominance and tendency to bite. She is now 5 months old and this has been corrected by and large so that my family and I are not the morsels of the day anymore! I do train her regularly with other toys and things to retain her prey drive, but she doesnt bite us anymore. It can be done! Otherwise you get into a situation as in animules case where the dog is one year old and still biting all over the place. This is both unacceptable and potential dangerous. This is NOT in the name of sport!

agree with 4pack and funkman let her be do not correct put tugs and food and toys in mouth if this dog is to trial u can harm the imagee of when the dog start toward u and u put a negative command like no bite or stop that or no bite when u get further down the road the pup will look at the helper and say oh i was told no bite or stop that dogs form permanent opinions at 3 mos old u cant have ur cake and eat it either a sport dog or a pet high drive is not hurt its the decision makeing of the pup that gets into play substitution without correcton makes a correcdtion and the dog doesnt see it as one it is tricky but a club trainer ought to know some of the neat trick Adrian Ledda and Rita taught me its great only u need to do this I would limit who does what with the pup like Was said pet or trial dog u have to choose doesnt mean he cant be socialized just put pup up if the visitor isnt a puppy nut that knows to use a toy to decoy the teeth

I full time family/house dog is going to get a million more correction than a "sport" puppy. Top level dogs arent house pets. Not until they are fully trained with full OB, later on down the road anyway. It's too much compulsion on a younge pup to not hurt it's drive in some way shape or form. If you aren't worried about placing high or are just doing sport for fun go ahead and tell your pup no by all means. Just don't get pissed in 3-4 years when he doesn't do better than club level.

right 4pack when ur trainer tells u to isolate the pups to correct the bad or wrong way hes doing a learned behaviour u have to decide are u doing the sport for fun or are u going to get mad when ur pup is twice as hard to get it done right and get mad at the trainer when if u dont decide now as ur pup is tiny ( in age only) that u will not be in it for the top score than do all the corredtion u want. Its hard to explain this unless uve had several dogs and I learned all the wrong ways on my first dog and then on the second u do it the way all the accomplished dog trainers tell u how to all dogs are different but they all have the same driven prey and motives and that is to please their master and its up to you to be from the beginning the alpha trainer and mold the pups actions as to what u want to achieve I know lots of decisions that a lot of husbands and kids get offended with mom the trainer making rules about the new baby german shepherd that she thinks is all hers and we cant touch her or scold her . Families need to discuss this before they buy a pup as to where they are going with the gsd....an I assume since ur on thiw site this is what u want to accomplish a titled dog~~~~

yellowrose, this pup is from my own breeding and I knew exactly what I was getting into with a working pup-the breeding experience was horrific- see posts from Sept. I don't think my hubby and daughter quite knew what to expect though. Our male definitely didn't have the prey drive that my new female has. He had the sharp puppy teeth but was not the flying crazy monkey that went after anything that thought about moving. Maybe Santa could bring my daughter some scratch pants for Christmas;)
