I also would be interested in the temperment issues as well if you could fill me in.

Puppies are puppies regardless of the pedigree! They all are just potential until they grow up and get hip ratings and display what the pedigree may indicate they should be. Some of the best breedings in Germany are 700-800eu tops, for puppies until an American on the internet starts e-mailing, then the price jumps to 1500eu and up. There are some 1000eu puppies sold in Germany but that's not the norm. Your dog dealers and those who have found a market in the US sell the high dollar puppies. I know because I started buying them in 1991 and  to lower the cost I have had friends in Germany go buy the same dog cheaper than it was offered to the US.

ejax,
the puppies themselves are not priced high, it is the shipping that needs to be taken into consideration. However still cheaper (the dollar is weak now so about the same) as you would purchase them here. I can't ask the breeder to lower the price of puppies because they are exported or because the dollar is weak. He has the same prices for about 8 years, doing dogs for 40.
I price my puppies low to the American standard and I will still replace a puppy with crappy hips without making the person return the puppy. If a puppy with problems found a good home, I am only happy and I will be glad to give them another one.

Also, here in US people want a 35 page warrantee. In Europe, we know it is a crap shoot to buy a puppy and we pay puppy prices. The only paper I personally care about is the registration papers. I am fully aware I can end up with a dysplastic dud but then that is my problem. If I want to be sure I get a young adult that has been checked for hips and elbows and I like the drives and temperament.

I still want to know the "temperament" all over the place issue and where it will come through, as I would like to know who carries the "issue" and how it manifest itself in a dog, male or a female.

Oh poopers, I PMed you I just noticed we were on pg. 2 LOL

The price of the puppy is excluding the shipping. The shipping is an additional expense. The eu is what it is and the devalued dollar doesn't change that. The price for an American is more than for a German. There are exceptions I'm sure but it has always been that way for the most part. If you shop right you can find young adults for a puppy price if you catch someone at the right time.

Hexe, I don't feel it is very professional for a dog trainer to come on to a public forum and tell their experiences with lines.  To me it is a step above gossip.  I make a living training peoples dogs.  My experiences will not be the same as others.  I get sent good dogs and I get sent poor dogs.  Unfortunately the poor dogs often come out of the same litters as the exceptional dogs.  I have no issue speaking to people privately about my experiences but a public forum shows a serious breach of class.  The dog community is very small. I understand that the forum is for education, I help when I can, but not on the forum itself.  Breeders are very proud of what they produce and sometimes are blinded.  I handle what is produced and judge each dog on its own merits.  It does not matter to me if a dog is out of "stud of the day". Can the parents produce themselves?  Very rarely.

I would see why someone would question this breeding as in Black Jack you MUST consider the fact he is no pussyy footing around type of a dog and the female MUST have strong nerves, stable temperament, bidability, eagerness to please, easy to handle with balanced drives and no handler aggression. Cherry is just that. The right female to take to a dog like Black Jack.

But I say it again, genetics are a bitch and all a breeder can do is to do his/her best in picking the correct breeding pair and then let mother nature do the rest. I would advise these puppies to be worked, not placed as pet type dogs. I would take this breeding over other ones as I know the female so I know what she has to bring temperament wise to the mix.

And I always pick my own puppies, as I know best what I can or can't deal with.

Good post....I couldn't agree with you more........

brynjulf, while I can respect your disdain for gossip, there is a marked difference between idle chatter and someone with solid experience intelligently discussing their first-hand observations of various traits, both good and bad, that they have encountered when working with bloodline combinations.  And any dog owner or breeder who isn't smart and honest enough to acknowledge and embrace the fact that it's impossible for every single pup in any given litter to be perfection, has no business being on the end of a lead that's attached to a bite-trained dog...because they're so foolish as to not have enough sense to come in from the rain.

I don't think anyone was expecting you to name specific dogs and give rundowns of their flaws or weaknesses, but rather were hoping you'd be more specific only as to what temperament challenges you'd seen in some dogs from similar breeding, aside from a lack of uniformity, not just between litters, but even within litters.  If you find even that much to be more than you think is prudent to divulge, then perhaps it would have been best not to mention anything at all on the subject on the open board, and simply contact the OP or GSDPack privately instead.  I disagree with you that to discuss your experiences openly constitutes bad form or any breach of class--it is not open and honest discussion about temperament, health, conformation, working ability and the like that is harmful to the breed; it's the hiding of such information which weakens the GSD with each new breeding made in ignorance of such specifics.
