a club in order to start can give people contacts into going on to do better things later; the
quick stop-gap for puppies before they get good enough for sports titles; landlords* etc requiring
some proof your dog is civilised in its behaviour.
Of course the AKC is going to use it as a money-raiser; what else is new ? Just as the UK
KC gets a little out of it - however in their case they maintain it costs more to administrate the
scheme, than they get back from entries, certificates etc. And as Abby points out, we have
THREE levels - must say I was surprised AKC hadn't thought that one up first ...
As Vonissk says, there's nothing actually wrong with being able to brag it as another title;
but lets hope we always make clear it does not by-pass other requirements for dogs fit for
breeding purposes. Any more than you would select a stud who had only SchH I, nothing
higher, and no health clearances. Same for other breeds too, though maybe without the
Schutzhund. lol
*As I had to move home at the beginning of this year, I was quite glad I could announce to all
& sundry that my boy is a Silver KCGCD; he does not have any working titles (and I don't
think prospective landlords are too interested in his BVA 3:3 hip score).

Bleh. I hate our species, more on some days than others.

looking to rent in the same places. Believe me when I say in my case it WAS useful - though
they believed me, they didn't ask to see the actual certificate ...
With so many landlords and housing organisations - at least over here - being pissy about
'no pets' in properties, any tiny thing that can tip the balance in a dogs favour counts.

Lol Rik - I have a 24 year old son that isn't a good citizen - he really can damage some doors and walls.....

Would they fail the dog if the handler wasn't CGC? lol
