Orry is the sire of SG Erri z Blatenskeho Zamku, in my view a very special dog, whom I just bred my female to.  Hoping for some VERY nice pups.   My girl is an Ellute daughter:  http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=544018

Wanderer,
That should be a nice litter! Xena, the one in my avitar is and Erri daughter. Xenas name is Aida vom Dukenheim. She is on this database

Orry is in good hands, at least he was a while ago. He was old and enjoying his retirement as much as he could.
Orry x Tom combo in pedigree produced a lot of small dogs, some not even reaching the standard minimum. only FYI

The only thing is: I know of four DM carriers out of Orry IT. not gonna blame it on him only but I would check the progeny if DM is important to the buyer.

Good luck

My girl is tested and DM N/N, so could produce a carrier but none will be affected.  Also, her first litter produced all pretty large dogs, even the females much larger than herself.  The male I have is a big boy at 17 mos. 80 lbs.  Don't think I need worry about size.
Thanks
Connie D.

PS   Jyl, that looks like a very nice female.

My Orry daughter is DNA tested clear/clear for DM--so perhaps her dad is +/-. She's a medium-large girl--I think she'll end up around 70 pounds--but her mom was large female.

wanderer.. did I talk about your female? I only offered first hand info and what people do with it is up to them. I am not talking anyone into anything. I am a firm believer that info should be shared. Orry has proven himself nicely in many dogs. But no dog is perfect and with each dog there are things that should be watched. That is what breeding is all about, sharing, verifying, and taking into consideration, learning form someone elses mistakes, rather than my own....

And who knows maybe the two mothers were at risk... that is very possible.

That only applies if you believe in the current DM test...

I "believe" in it -- but I don't believe it's the whole story. I think there's some activator that we don't know of, and I also think we're going to find that there's a second disease that we've been calling by the same name that isn't revealed by this DNA test.

IMO, it's still worth testing for and avoiding the production of potentially affected dogs if it reduces the number of dogs produced who are affected by (the probably more common form of) DM.

N/Ns have died from "it" and affecteds have lived long happy lives. My point is, I certainly wouldn't let it scare me off a dog I really liked. It's been proven unreliable in our breed. Other breeds, no...GSDs, yes. As it stands right now, it's not something I put too much stock in as far as making breeding decisions and would be cautious "blaming" a dog for producing "carriers." That's all.

To me, it just means test your dogs.

It *shouldn't* scare anyone off using a dog for breeding--as long as the breeding partners are tested.
