There ought to be a professional job title/career for dog midwives, so we can help those who are having anxiety over whelping. I can't count how many litters I've whelped for other breeders, typically involves me being on-call in the middle of the night for my friends. (so far this year I've helped whelp 4 litters for 2 different breeder friends...my "pay" is my gas costs and a meal or two, lol.)
One of these days I'm going to buy one of those handheld ultrasounds to add to my whelping kit....that would be so unbelievably helpful! (especially so I don't waste hours hanging around to see if mom is done whelping or if she has 1 more pup left in there)

EuroShepherd... You KNOW you unintentionally got me online looking for a hand held ultrasound..
Today her temp was 99.9... and this time.. it wasn't me who was freaking! I told my husband what the temp was and he said "Don't leave me.. you know I'm not good at this!" (I was only going to the store). I think now that I have someone else to calm down, its easier for me. We have still have about 4 days from the first breeding to go. Keeping fingers crossed it doesn't happen on Monday when I have a 14 hour shift!

Doesn't look like I am going to get that lucky!!! Temp this morning was 99.0... Temp at 1:00 p.m. was 98.9.... I have to take her out on a leash now... because twice this morning she disappeared into the hay barn. I've already called work... "just in case".. to let them know I "might" be out...
and they were none too happy as I have two surgeries to assist with.

Bet you'll wake up to puppy squeaks and not the alarm...you get supersonic hearing when you're on puppy-watch!

A watched bitch never whelps.
